Lol when the ps2 came out there was a big thing about it being 'difficult' to code/program/develop for...this didnt stop Kojima from throwin out MGS2 almost off the bat, while some other studios/developers were still complaining...just thought that was noteworthy

Give them some time re do the comparison when the ps3 has been out for a year then we can see what goes on. In my opinion both systems are really good but if i remember correctly some of the 360 launch titles were compared to normal x-box and ps2 and didnt fare that well either.

Well Crixx, the reason is, Graphically wise and power wise, you can only compare the Xbox 360 and PS3. The Wii is subpar graphically and power wise. The graphics are best, last gen pumped up a little. This was an exercise between the two monster consoles in terms of processing and graphical prowess. Don't get me wrong, I believe the Wii will sell alot, from the sheer fact that Nintendo is innovative and the control system is interesting and all, but when it boils down to it, Multiplayer and Online play is where gaming is evolving, the Wii has no online multiplayer support yet, the PS3 is now getting it's feet wet and Xbox 360 is up to it's neck in Xbox Live players who gravitate towards online matchups and friend lists. Ask any man who have Xbox Live and a Xbox 360 if they will go to PS3 when their online "free" system picks up. There is no FRIENDS list as such, so how do you find the same people or keep track of people you usually play with? if you constantly having to change your Gamertag for each game? That's poor planning on Sony's part. But hey, that's what you get for FREE.

Of all the multiplayer online games, Pokeman....what about FPS games like COD 3?
What good is the Wii-mote if you can't use it for FPS games online? instead of playing with Pokeman.

As I have stated earlier, I have nothing against Nintendo, I own a Gamecube, and a DS, and yes I have played Mario Kart DS on wifi (don't need to go out to do it, since i have a Cable Modem with a wireless router) and it's fun, but to put the Wii in this next gen war is just not fair on the Wii. The graphics will always be subpar, and the games will suffer because of it. Sure, the Nintendo fans will get their Mario games, Zelda games, but why would you lower your graphical prowess and expect to compete in the next gen war. They are selling more systems cause they are cheap. $250.00 vs. $399.99 and $599.99, but as I also said before, you get what you pay for. Subpar Next gen graphics. When it comes down to it, the Wii is innovative, but not in league with the 360 or PS3, hence the reason I left it out in this post. I am a fan of all systems, but the main fight is between 360 and PS3. The Wii is a second rate system that my fiance will enjoy playing, while I play Gears of War and Halo 3. It's simple as that.

Have to agree with Laertes here.  Same scenario existed with the N64 vs PS1.  Although the PS1 was technically superior, it took a game on the level of Metal Gear Solid for me to finally purchase one.  I had been happily playing Goldeneye and Perfect Dark and Rogue Squadron and other unique N64 games too numerous to count up to that point
In the end, its all about the games, and more importantly, the gameplay.  THATS why Wii will sell, regardless of its power.  The new control scheme is what has made it next gen, not its 'power'.

As for the subject of this thread, I think Gamespot should have waited a little bit before writing that 'vs' article.  Its a bit premature.

As it stands now, regardless of so-called 'power', the system to get is the Xbox 360, and I want one, BADLY!!!

Gots that right. Just play GOW once and you're SOLD.... i'll get my Wii later on and whilst I believe it will kick @$$ and take names in this rounds of the consoles wars, I appreciate where masterchief is coming from with the 'next gen' argument being in terms of graphical and processing capabilities. Look at it from this perspective. Sony has a '6-axis' remote to add similar functionality to their games as the Wii. Its pretty easy to see Microsoft making a motion sensitive wireless remote and having games to fully utilize it. Let's face it, if Song and MS decided hey the Wii has a good idea, (which in some ways sony already has) then what happens with Next gren graphics and Wii like controls? what will the Wii offer to match? And moresover whats to stop sony and MS from utilitzing motion sensitive remotes? Thus I agree with Wii can't quite play in this thread.

Thank You W1nTry for the backup. They just didn't get my point that this post was about the graphics and power, not "next gen" in general. The Wii will never cope in this department, hence the reason for leaving it out. Imagine running Gears of War on the Wii??  That would be a disaster.

Well honestly we all hope soon and actually Nintendo did mention future intent to have the console running at least on 720p. I am not sure if this will occur via a software/firmware upgrade similar to the MOTHER F&*(ING dashboard update that BRICKED MY FIRST 360 adding support to 1080p (yeah I still bitter), but it could be a new console or revised version of the console, time will tell. The real trick with Nintendo is not just money, but support from their manus. To have their console run higher level graphics they will need to rethink the CPU, board AND video. If they're lucky, the CPU may already support it, IF they are lucky the GPU may need slight mods (like faster MHz, more memory, more pipelines) kinda like plugging a 8800 series from a 7900. But seeing as the CPU is PowerPC based, the video is ATI... I mean AMD based, I think without woddles of cash, it'll be hard to persuade the likes of IBM or AMD to put sufficient manpower into a 'minor' upgrade as opposed to a completely new and kick @$$ powerful system that will make them millions. That just the way I see it. But again I say I HOPE that they do.

The arguement of the three of you basically says "GRAPHICS GOOOOD!!! , Nintendo no graphics....Baaaad!"  they will still be making millions , cant you see who is ahead between the wii and ps3 in sales? and dont say this is because lack of consoles on the ps3 part because they have been getting shippments also.

i always hatteeedddd the x box ginormous controller, and so did alot of people, so guess what, MS made a smaller one, adn then there smash hit halo, was an innovative game in the fps genre, so it won people over but then some people still hateddddd the controllers scheme, so they created teh keyboard and mouse for it!! and honestly, thats the only time i ever touched halo, one there was a good enuff controller system to make the GAMEPLAY good for me!!!!

THe 64 and playstation war was not fought on the basis of graphics power, because the 64 had it and the 64 had alottt of amazing nintendo games!! but where the playstation won was the 3rd party support, that brought really new games to the market, such as the beloved metal gear franchise, thigns just never before possible!! and it wasnt about graphics power!! cause i always used to cuss like a vex granny about how sony would make these great movies and suckyyyy ass in game graphics. But they did have a few games worth putting down my admittedly FAARRR more advanced 64 controller for.



Jump ahead to the dream cast!!! excellentt controller!! excellent games!! league of its own, will always be a fan favourite, then came the ps2, that for some reason won out, probably i dont know.. cause of the wider variety of games it had.. great GAME PLAY in games like sc2 and tekken and so forth... its possible ... i dont know.. maybe gamers and developers gameplay was important...
cube came along, offered some great GAME PLAY worthy games, naruto gekito ninja taisen 3 and 4, smash melee, metroid, you know, good stuff, mario kart and double dash and zelda and stuff.. things that focused on ... i dont know... GAME PLAY!!!

now we reach "next gen" xbox 360 launches first, underwhelming at first.. nothing to get ur panties in a knot for or anything
competition arrives and they release their killer app. GEARS OF WAR
which from the fan boys is the second coming of the messiah crossed with halo. So from deciphering there crazed  xbox green induced hysteria, we gather that it has killer graphics and stellar game play.. hmm sounds good.

BUT THEN WE HAVE THE UBER FAN BOY MASTER CHIEF AND HIS STALWART PLAY TOY WINTRY come in and start swinging the fan boy stick around and want to beret the wii for the fact that its the most innovative piece of gaming hardware we have ever seen, but it doesnt stack the graphics so high that gamers have to sell their mothers meds for money to purchase the system.

do yu like bragging that your system cost 399 and 599? over the 250 gem the wii that is ooooodles of fun and has amazzinggggg game play??

Besides teh sports games adn zelda, i cant waitttt for somethign liek star wars and also cod 3 to appear on the wii!!
