i'm in desperate need of a good site that features how to optimally place the fans in a case for a P4 system, intel is far less helpull than AMD i'll tell you that much.
if anyone has any ideas it's also welcome, i currently have a single fan blowing air out of the system (same a recommended for AMDs, it's been a LONG time since i used an intel chip), the ps has no base vent, and i do have a few fans extra, also there are vents directly over the cpu fan and one under that.
any help welcome i in fear of that intel chip.
EDIT
1 more thing, can you all suggest any good monitoring software (like MSI's PC alert for e.g.) that i could download? The conventional intel one's don't work with this board, it uses an ATI chipset.

well what you wanna do pretty much is pull in from the front, and possibly sides, and expell air through the back and top if you have a blow hole.
If you have a vent ver the cpu fan, then that's ll you need. Simply making a cardboard tube, to direct fresh air over the cpu from that vent would be good enough.
Do note intel's prescotts run hot, and are designed to do so. Before I went to water cooling, my chip was nudging 70C on load.

thanks alot. god i have to check up on that chip.
will a copper base thermaltake cool it enough using air?
water cooling? You *real* like your pc...
also what is the max temp for this thing to operate? i know that they have some auto protection on it that automatically reduced the speed and the voltage to the chip when it get too hot, but that could be a downside when i running my lil game.

every case has its own cooling paths, but alwaysthe more air you get circulating and in/out the better but it does need to do so in an even manner. side fans blow in as do front and top/rear blow out, keep the air circulating and your fine.

even in, even out. got it.
I put two fans to pull air out and the same for in, a bit noisy but say what, at least my sister can harrass me again, the "JET II" is what she dubbed this new pc.
man why ever was using amd beats me this intel mad, ,i real like ht woi!
i surprized as to how i even get oblivion running on this thing, with the on-board graphics.

well if you have a hole on top the cpu fan, then that's all you need if you're looking at concentrating on the CHIP. just make sure the CFM - cubic feet per minute - to expell air at least equals the cfm of the intake fan. An intake to direct air via tube over the hsf on the cpu is by far more effective than ensuring proper case fan positioning.
reason you'd want to pull in front and pull out back it to create a stream of air to pass by the card, phase circuits, memory etc. You have the psu fan which already adds to expulsion at the back.
If you dont need to cool the rest of the components, then all you may need is a single fan on the back to expell air, along with the intake over the cpu fan.
If you're using even a stock heatsink with an over the chip intake, then you don't have to worry much on throttling, except if overclocking. Just ensure proper contact is being made with the chip.
You should lower the rate of those fans. I've found very little difference between 5v (red black) and 12v (yellow black). run your fans quiet. You'd probably lose a couple degrees cooling, but lack of noise is worth it. You REALLY wont have to worry about your chip if it's a p4 and not throttling. Toms hardware tested an early p4 by completely removing the sink during operation. Quake 3 actually remained stable! it throttled to kingdom come, but intel's safety precautions are top notch.
If you're pumping extra voltage, to the point where top air cooling throttles the cpu and you're maxing out the chip - then yeah, water is a good thing
