They done it yet again...grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory...

Chasing 279 for victory and well placed at 172 for 2 the West Indies lost 9 wickets for 29 runs in going down by 78 runs to Australia in the opening game of the Tri-Nation Series at the Kinrara Oval in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Openers Chris Gayle (58) and Shivnarine Chanderpaul (92) shared an opening stand of 136 but the West Indies, who needed 108 runs in 26.4 overs with 9 wickets in hand, were dismissed for 201.

Ramnaresh Sarwan (22) was the only other batsman to reach double figures against man of the match Shane Watson 4-41, Nathan Bracken 2-45 and Mitchell Johnson 2-65.

Earlier Michael Clarke, 81 off 79 balls and captain Ricky Ponting, 56 from 54 balls, carried Australia to 279/9 against Jerome Taylor 3-56, Dwayne Smith 2-41 and Ian Bradshaw 2-36.

Captain Brian Lara says his team has to try to avoid a repeat of this performance.

Ricky Ponting praised his bowlers for fighting back.

Additionally, Skipper Ricky Ponting has been fined his match fee for showing dissent at an umpire's decision during Australia's victory over the West Indies.

Ponting was charged by the umpires with breaching cricket's code of conduct relating to dissent at an umpire's decision by action or verbal abuse.

The Aussie skipper pleaded guilty at a hearing led by match referee Chris Broad.

West Indies will next face India on Thursday.

*sigh*...what was even more depressing was knowing how well we were going along, being able to watch some of the opening partnership, and then only to come back from lectures to hear that load of crap....

I think God's light beginning to burn through their heads by now. He's probably also tired from focusing on them for so long. Maybe not even God can help.

Maybe that's true...but the W.I. (Brian Lara especially) are unpredictable. Maybe I'm just too g*******d patriotic but they ARE sometimes full of surprises...

Oh...okay.....

My friend told me that the only hope for the W.I. is to "re-format"
In other words get a new team of YOUNGER players.
and get rid of the viruses (he mentioned Lara and Chanderpaul in that catagory)
