Ahh very nice. Well it's the full cost for me, splits to my dad's/sister's ps3 and my cousins.
My cousin though in return buys stuff like the MW2 map packs etc. So it works out nicely.

You can share bought content with up to 3 other PSN users. This explains it. It should only be done with people you trust. in my case I share with close friends since we are all cheap :p

http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=158147

When a PS3 is activated under a given PSN account, it can run the software downloaded (purchased) from the PlayStation store under that PSN account. The activation is automatic the first time you log in with a given PSN account, meaning whatever you download from then on will work fine.

Deactivating a PS3 (or a PSP) basically makes content downloaded under a given PSN account unreadable on that system. You can safely try this yourself. Deactivate your system > try launching any already downloaded game (wont work) > re-activate your system > content will now work fine as before.

This is mostly useful when you want to share stuff you downloaded (purchased) with other people. To do so you have to let them log in as you from their PS3s. So you basically have to give them your log in data (email + password). Once they log in as you, their PS3s are automatically activated (hence, by accessing the "Download List" section on the PS store, they can re-download for free and run on their systems all the stuff you purchased). When a grand total of 5 PS3s are activated under the same PSN account, no more PS3s can be activated, therefore you cannot share your PSN account with more that 4 other people at a time.

If, say, you want to share your PSN account with a new friend but have all those extra 4 activations already in place on other PS3s, you have to de-activate one of these so that your new friend can activate his system under your PSN account.

Also note that deleting a profile via the XMB from a PS3 doesnt automatically deactivate it under the PSN account associated to that profile. It has to be "manually" deactivated from the account management page in order to free one of those 5 activations. So if a friend of yours is using your PSN account and decides to dispose of his PS3 system, tell him to do the deactivation thing (log in as you > Account Management > Activate System > PlayStation 3 (this system) > Deactivate system), otherwise you'll lose one of your possible activations. Simply deleting the profile associated with your PSN account or formatting the HDD is not enough.

Gran Turismo 5: This is How You Support a Game
« Reply #3497 on: June 10, 2011, 08:55:42 PM »
What are your thoughts on this? Never really liked the online pass idea but I guess it is one way for publishers to make money.

http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/story/86754/gran-turismo-5-this-is-how-you-support-a-game/

Quote
We live in a time when game publishers fear the secondary market. They sell their games for $50-$60 in stores, but then see nothing when these games are inevitably resold on eBay, GameStop, or other used game outlets. This has become so prevalent in the minds of publishers that the online pass has started to crop up in more and more games. Electronic Arts started the trend with their Online Pass. Now we've seen it show up from THQ with Homefront and Warner Bros. with Mortal Kombat. If you want to play the game online, you have to submit a code that comes with a brand new retail copy. Bought it used? You'll have to pay $10 to get online access.

At the 2011 Game Developer's Conference, Epic Games' Cliff Bleszinski spoke briefly about this during his talk on being the power creative. He stressed how he believes the way you beat the secondary market is to make a game people never want to get rid of. You do this by supporting a game after release. In terms of Gears of War, they support it through double XP weekends and more rewards for players who participate in consecutive double XP weekends.

Then we look at Gran Turismo 5. For those unfamiliar, the kind folks at Polyphony Digital have been providing very frequent updates to the game ever since launch. Their update schedule has only faltered during the recent PSN outage, but they got their update online almost immediately after the network came back online. These updates have included an online car dealership, races to qualify for a contest to drive an actual racecar, seasonal events, special challenges, development and car videos, and numerous gameplay tweaks and fixes.

Now, they're even offering a limited edition Chevrolet Camaro as part of the Edge/Schick Quattro giveaway. Buy an Edge or Schick Quattro product and you can get a code for a free Chevrolet Camaro SS "Edge Special."

For those developers that don't think this kind of support is worth it for a game, just take a look at the used game prices for big games release in the same month. Prices are dictated by the basics of economics: supply and demand. Low supply and high demand make for a higher price. Any game that gets traded in a lot and/or people don't want to buy will have a lower price. Games in high demand or that rarely get traded in see higher prices. Currently on GameStop's website, Gran Turismo 5 is selling for $54.99 used, the highest possible price they put on a used game. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (the latter featuring EA's Online Pass, by the way) are both highly rated games that are currently selling for $34.99 used.

This is proof positive that the online pass strategy isn't the way to combat the secondary market. Supporting your games with great content like Polyphony Digital has done with Gran Turismo 5 is the way.

GT5 FTW
i also like the way SOCOM did the online pass thing

the way it is in socom is that every new game will have a code on the back of the game manual to scratch off. Said code provides u with SOCOM Pro

with SOCOM pro u get exclusive content for free
guns, maps , custom playlists etc
there will be dlc outside of socom pro however but the socom pro stuff is incentive for buying it new rather than used

if u buy it used the PS store has socom pro for $15 which still not bad considering its a one time buy for free content

devs gotta make money and used games not puttin money in their pocket
cod yuh cud buy use.........them does already overprice their dlc :P
