Some of them do.... It's not very common though, it just seems common due to it being in high profile games like mgs4.

I keep mine horizontal.
btw my previous 60GB version did fail on me. WIth the crossbar update months ago SONY told me that the cell processor was corrupted and could no longer play backwards compatible games.
They wanted 150 US to repair the system. Instead i used my Best Buy warranty, and manged to (somehow) land a 80GB backwards compatible Metal Gear PS3 and retain a 2 year warranty on the new system.
Other than that, the PS3 is meant to run like a PC, you dont have to turn it off.

Hmm and does it have a battery on the mobo like a pc motherboard? I was thinking of unplugging it while not in use.

Do you leave discs in while not using it?

You doh understand I took massive precautions with my 360....AC on always, nothing within 5 feet of it, warm up and cool down when gaming, never moved it in fear of damage, dust free environment....sigh lol

Plan on doing the same with this investment hehe.

As a precaution...
I know at least 2 people who have left their ps3 unplugged (or hard-switched off) for long periods of time, and on turning it on, it did not read discs.
For me, I always have power running through it (standby mode).
I always leave discs in mine also.
I've never experienced an overheat, and I've used the PS3 for long periods of time with AC off... I've even left it on folding@home overnight with AC off and no problems.

O also, if you experience a system crash, and you will, most of the time just touching the power button for 3 seconds will turn it off (you'll hear 1 beep for power off.)
If you do so and the system light keeps blinking in the shut down phase, touch and hold the power button for 10secs, u will hear the first and then a second beep...that shuts the system down regardless of state.

Do NOT shut the system down using the hard switch behind..that has also been a reason for bluray drive failure, especially when the system is in a "frozen state".

^thats rather weird...
I think from a technical standpoint it wud be good to leave a disc in the ps3 while the system is in standby, because
1.) It covers the blu-ray laser
2.) When u turn on the system it has a disc to read immediately.

Thats just me ..lol

Well just played around with the PS3 for a few hours last night. In terms of the hardware I was really impressed with how sleek the system is and the touch sensitive buttons and slot loading drive are decent.

I was bracing myself for a less than stellar online experience after using xbox live for the past few years but honestly, it aint bad. It could be better with voice messages and they really need to unify the voice system. My friend was guiding me around and we had to leave the voice chat and go into the SF4 voice chat, will take a lil getting used to.

Home seems interesting, not much to do so far but I think they can definitely expand on this. I was hoping to see party launching but I haven't experimented much with it yet.
Also the multitasking was a bit limited I really wanted to move around the xmb when it was downloading certain updates but I kept getting that (-) stop sign in the top right corner when downloading. Just left it to download all game updates.

Glad to see support for pretty much all usb and bluetooth devices, did not have to go out and buy a whole bunch of accessories.

I must say the system is very quiet, I didn't know when it was on by the sound of it I was a bit worried lol.
