a bit of a gouge but considering the old 10 to 1 rule, not outrageous.

A US$300 Slim PS3 results in a suggested retail value of of TT$3000.00

I could understand if a local supplier wants to push his margin a little (say to hedge against crime, warranty issues, etc...) and end up with a $3600.00 price tag.

If it sits on the shelf for too long, they'll come down in price. don't worry. By christmas it will be cheaper.

I had a friend close up shop recently because bandits broke in and stole all his goods. Years of building a business down the drain. Running with too thin a profit margin won't give a company much financial strength to weather any storm.

We've seen that time and time again with GLs that could hardly afford to upgrade after their machines began aging (in say two to three years). Dooming themselves in the process.

This is very true at $300 USD they would have a 40% duty to add on as well as shipping and handling charges. There will be numerous overheads such as rent, employees etc that would have to be factored in as well.  Can't blame them for marking up these items as they are trying to earn a living. A bit high perhaps but as Noob said if they aint getting buyers the price will come down...

As for the bandits, it really is sickening eh all your hard work and they feel they have a right to come take it away steups.

Yea, but how much really does a retailer buy a PS3 for before they sell it for the Retail price of $299...$250? $200? then the mark-up should be calculated from there...

The couple of retailers I know pay normal retail price for systems online. I heard that PS3 slims will be around 2800 @ JK. I'm thinking of getting one for Xmas.

Not 'great' , but definitely a step in the right direction.  Bringing one in yourself might cost about that.

PS3 compatible phone hits stores this October

Sony's always been pretty good about keeping their products cross-compatible. Odds are if you own one Sony product, you can link it up with another, unlocking a flurry of unspoken extra features that are both nifty and convenient.

Or they're just completely useless.

But this doesn't seem to be the case with Sony's upcoming Aino phone. The new device can connect to your PS3 via Remote Play, allowing you to control your console from all ends of the Earth.

Using Wi-Fi or a 3G connection, you'll have access to a number of your console's features. This includes chatting with friends on the PSN, hard drive management/access on the go, and shopping at the PlayStation Store so you can download games while you're away from home.

The new phone hits stores this October, meaning in a few short weeks, your PS3 will never have to leave your side---well, sorta.

Sony's 3D PlayStation 3: Hands-on photos

BERLIN--We heard Sony was showing off a 3D PlayStation 3 here at IFA. Curious, we headed to the enormous Sony stand where we discovered a young boy--DualShock controller in-hand, 3D glasses mounted on his visibly excited face--playing the PS3's Wipeout racing game on a massive 3D television.

Naturally, we had to kick him off so we could have a play. For the next five minutes we blazed through the game's futuristic raceways with a perception of depth we've never experienced before, all presented in 1080p high-definition and vivid color. And in just more than a year, Sony told us, it expects to be selling the same experience in European stores.

Today, our experience involved a regular PS3. All the three-dimensional horsepower comes not from a modified PlayStation, or even special versions of its games--it's all down to some ingenious picture-processing  technology inside a new Bravia TV (currently a prototype). This means it should work with all existing PlayStation 3 games. At least, that's the intention.

At the end of 2010, Sony plans to release this 3D Bravia for use with its games console. But over the following two or three years, we were told, it wants to build the picture-processing technology into the PlayStation itself. That way, gamers will be able to enjoy 3D gaming on any high-def TV. Plans to incorporate the system into Blu-ray players, and even Vaio laptops, also exist.

The downside is that the picture-processing technology will only work for games--it requires computer-generated imagery to function, so can't currently be applied to movies and TV shows.

But would that stop you investing? Does a PlayStation 3D sound like your idea of gaming nirvana? Leave your thoughts below.

GT5: Best Looking Game of All Time?

EDIT: http://goonlinegames.net/2009/09/06/hidden-feature-in-ps3-firmware-3-0/

Hidden Feature in PS3 Firmware 3.0

I’m sure many of you PS3 gamers out there have had experiences online where some users microphones have given terrible feedback, well now, help is at hand from Sony’s latest Firmware update in the shape of an Echo Canceller.
Head over to the settings section of the XMB and scroll down to Accessory Settings, and then choose Audio Device Settings. Move the cursor down to your headset, and hit Triangle. From there, choose Settings off the menu, and you can then use the Echo Canceller.
It’s strange to think a feature like this was left off any changelogs for 3.00, as it could be a Godsend for many online gamers, and may be particularly good for those of you who use the PS Eye as a mic.

http://www.ps3center.net//news/3584/ffxiii-ps3-has-been-adversely-affected-by-360/

that is rel sh1t dred.
versus 13 ftw

That is so stupid. It is because of this news that I've decided that I won't buy FFXIII again. I'm definitely getting Versus XIII though.

I can handle the fact that the 360 is affecting the graphics, but why couldn't S-E just provide Japanese Audio w/ English subs as a free download on both PSN and XboxLive........that would be 'fair' (at least to those who have online).

ps3 gamers complain about everything. do you really need to hear these characters speak in japanese? we all speak english. i cannot see how reading a subtitle so that you can understand what is going on adds to the experience. i am upset about the graphics though.

well i understand where seiryuki coming from
same way how ppl like to watch their anime in Japanese cuz  the english dubs are horrible
same way with the games.

doesnt matter tho versus 13 wud most likely be the better one anyway judging by the video and the darkish tone which not really like a typical FF game
