The interwebs is abuzz with info on the long awaited firmware 2.4

Trophy support is coming which is the Playstation equivalent of 360's achievments...

and the in-game XMB we've been begging for might also be in 2.4

All that plus MGS4 in 2 days....

FW 2.4 is imminent and people are citing a June 10th release as well as a June 18th...
COming from diff sources...all confirming and denying.

FW 2.4 is not coming out on June 10th...due to problems with the debug version given out to developers they are still ironing out the kinks but i must say its coming real soon. It could possibly come out June 18th but latest rumour is sometime in July. Until sony doesn't confirm this 2.4firmware release date we can only rely on inside info and rumours.

Word is the MGS4 already has all that trophy stuff in it and they want to release it either close to the release or a bit after just to show it off.

I might get the special edition if i getting a good price....

@ Exar_Kun... well we did the same with adding our skybox address to credit card billing info and it still did not work with Playstation.
It works on amazon, and other online retailers though...the skybox address that is...

Yo people finally there is a way to use any credit card to purchase stuff on the ps store. check out the link http://www.xtremeps3.com/guides.php?act=guide&id=14  Feedback will be great.

got it here, not sure how reliable they are
http://www.coderetard.com/2008/06/05/40gb-ps3-firmware-update-to-add-ps2-backwards-compatiblity/

Well I don't see why it can't happen...

Its just code that needs to be written to use the cell and rsx rather than ps2 hardware....

Emulation...
Isn't this being done in the 80gb ps3 also?

Well if they do do this...alot of people will be happy...

The MGS4 Database is a free, downloadable interactive application that contains the official knowledge base of everything that is Metal Gear, reaching all the way back to the very beginning of the franchise. Including complete storylines, character profiles, relationship diagrams, and much more! The MGS4 database is a great way to catch up for someone new to Metal Gear, as well as a useful resource for any veteran of the series, with complete official details on every aspect of the intricate Metal gear lore.

The MGS4 Database also contains a special feature – if you want to make use of the database, but have not yet fully played through MGS4 yet and are worried about spoilers – all MGS4 spoilers are “blacked out” until you’ve beaten MGS4. Give it a try!

But that’s not all, within MGS4, check out the EXTRAS option of the main menu (if you haven’t already). There’s already new, free downloadable content available for the game - with new camouflage and a new music track for the in game iPod. There will be more forthcoming, so be sure to check this often!

OK, but the cards need to be activated at the cash register when you buy them.
If you pay to import one, how do you know its activated before it ships?

About time they released them.
Thankfully though I never had to pay for the map pack. I got a code in the COD4 package for it. I assume all new COD4 games will have the code for the map pack.
