A physically challenged man driving his car got a $1,000 traffic ticket for crossing the sidewalk to reach a parking space for the handicapped reserved for him on the compound of the National Library and Information Systems Authority (Nalis) building in Port of Spain on Wednesday.Public Administration Ministry employee Sudhir Ramessar said he was also threatened with arrest when he protested that the officer was making a mistake in serving him the citation.Ramessar said the police constable told him that the parking spot, which has the image of a wheelchair painted on the ground, was reserved for a wheelchair and not for his car, which is specially modified to allow him to drive, using only his hands.He has been charged with at Hart Street, Port of Spain, driving his vehicle "on a pavement or footpath contrary to Regulation 37 of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 48:50."Ramessar, who lost his ability to walk when he was an infant, has written to the Police Complaints Authority over his treatment.He also intends going to court to fight the charge. He said the ticket carried multiple spelling mistakes, which included his address, and the word "foothpath".Ramessar said he left his workplace before noon on Wednesday to attend a meeting of the Trinidad and Tobago Paralympic Committee at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.Ramessar, the treasurer of the committee, said he returned to work near 1 p.m. Ramessar said he pulled into the parking spot he has used for the past two months—a spot reserved for the physically challenged.Ramessar said he opened the driver's side door and asked a co-worker to assist in getting his wheelchair out of the trunk."As I jumped to get from (the seat of the) car into the wheelchair, I turned to see an officer there in uniform, asking if I was the driver of the vehicle".Ramessar said the officer accused him of driving on the sidewalk and forcing people to scamper out of the way.Ramessar said he showed the officer a sign posted at the entrance which directed motorists to the parking area.Ramessar said his initial shock turned to anger then embarrassment over the next 25 minutes as the officer shouted for his driver's permit and insurance, and passers-by stopped to gawk. The co-worker who assisted Ramessar was also yelled at.Ramessar said he told the officer that his conduct was the reason why many citizens had little respect for law enforcement."He said I was threatening him and I could be arrested," said Ramessar.Ramessar said the police officer told him that the parking spot was for "wheelchair access"."So I had to explain that while I am in my car, that is my means of movement. That becomes my wheelchair. He said he don't want to hear about that".Ramessar said he told the officer he would have no choice later in the day, but to break the law again, since to get back to the road, he would have to cross the sidewalk."He said that was not his concern," said Ramessar, who visited the police station shortly after and claims he was told by two senior officers that "this should never have happened".Ramessar has two weeks to pay the fine.
A Santa Cruz woman whose 10-month-old daughter was sexually assaulted at a Port-of-Spain day care centre on Thursday was yesterday crying out for justice and is calling on the police to speed up their investigation in the interest of protecting innocent children.The woman said she regrets leaving her baby at the day care centre, which had been recommended to her by a friend and, therefore, she did no background checks on the facility.She said a week ago she took her baby to the day care centre and was introduced to the owner who told her three sitters worked on shift caring for three other babies.The woman said she was told that the fee was $60 a day and $580 per month. “On Thursday, at about 10 am, I took my daughter to the day care centre. When I arrived there later at about 3.30 pm one of the sitters gave the baby to me but I noticed that she was irritable and not her normal self but I paid no heed to it and thought that maybe she was hungry,” said the woman.“However, when I arrived at home and proceeded to change the diaper I discovered that the vagina of my baby was reddish and swollen and this raised alarm bells causing me to rush my child to the Santa Cruz Health Centre where a doctor confirmed that my baby was in fact sexually assaulted.”She said that it was horrifying to learn that a baby could be subjected to sexual abuse and was advised to make a report to the Central Police Station in Port-of-Spain, which she did. According to the woman, the police advised her not to make any contact with the day care centre since it was now a police investigation.However, the woman said she never thought someone would abuse her daughter and advised other mothers to conduct background checks before taking their babies to day care centres.“I cannot live a normal life anymore because I keep thinking of what my innocent child may have been forced to endure but I know one thing for certain that I will not rest until the perpetrator of this evil act is brought to justice,” said the woman. She said her daughter has been continuously crying and appears to be withdrawn.Newsday understands that a district medical officer has been assigned to carry out another examination of the baby which is expected to take place today.Police were expected to visit the day care centre yesterday to interview staff. Sources indicated the centre remained open.Yesterday, a source at the Ministry of Social Development said Government intends to put legislation in place to protect children at day care centres and they also expressed concern about the failure of some centres to conduct proper background checks on persons employed as sitters.

which one is fake? Cus i saw the mob one, and it looked pretty real to me...I actually hope its fake though... i don't want to believe that people like that....
