As Q pointed out, you don't know what she was going through..If you read the article thoroughly you would notice that she was having problems with friends and family...so perhaps she didn't have that support system that you have. To someone in depression feeling alone and having no support = disaster. All I was pointing out was that it was not a nice thing to say given that it was so soon, and the fact that judging a person without knowing the facts is not nice.

You and I may feel that way Arc, but there are people who suffer from depression and its a serious disease. Its not an easy thing to deal with. Yes, its cowardly, but at the same time, people need HELP, not comments about alternate ways of ending their life.

She obviously saw suicide as a way out. Did it ever occur to you that maybe she didn't share your INDIVIDUAL VIEW on suicide, hence her french-kissing a train with her car? Maybe instead of telling others to grow a pair, you should grow some gray hair. Then maybe you'd be wise enough to genuinely appreciate what other ppl are going through instead of touting how you'd handle what other ppl are going through. Better yet, get some glasses and transcend the emotional myopia from which you currently suffer and understand that other ppl's circumstances and options are NOT yours and vice versa.

To make it gaming relevant (and hopefully simpler for you to understand), in Street Fighter some ppl do Shoryukens, some ppl do crouching FP and some ppl get kicked in the face and that's IF everyone is playing a shoto which isn't always the case. Sometimes they have a Guile or a 'Gief. In gaming and in life, not everyone has the same options as you do and even if they do, they may not be as capable, for one reason or the other, of fully utilising them so BE SLOW TO JUDGE UNTIL YOU FULLY UNDERSTAND, DESPITE YOUR INDIVIDUAL OPINION.

my little 2 cents, depression is a disease, it prevents people from seeing themselves clearly, and or combatting it efficiently.
lots of the people u see walking the streets, succumbing to drugs, comtemplating and actually commiting suicide,and various other antisocial acts are a direct result of depression unchecked and not dealt with. this affects your mind, your perception, your ability to think and articulate coherent thought.

Also some people don't have the luxury of having people give a damn about them. ive seen it and as someone who has done a fair share of social work ive seen it first hand.

Simmer down, everyone.

I'll agree that suicide definitely wasn't the option she should have taken. It was such a waste of a pretty young thing like her to do herself in.

At the same time, I'll also agree with Q and rb's sentiments here. Nobody but her knew the level of grief she was going through, no matter how much we can try to imagine it. Grief does VERY strange things to a person's psyche. Sometimes, utterly horrid things. Did we stop to think what made her detest her lot in life? Why her relationship ending devastated her as much as it did? Was she even thinking straight when she decided to ram her car into an oncoming train? That's a lot to consider here.


Now, I know I can pretty much be quoted on the whole "Suicide is the coward's way out." thing, but note that I say that in referral to people who take their lives over completely stupid bulls**t. Remember the boy who killed himself for not passing an exam? STUPID. Why? Because there were so many avenues for him to try again, it wasn't the end of the world.  In this case? Read the article. It's a conga line of trauma, one after the other. She did try to get back on her feet. Multiple times. And each and every effort ended in failure. What was going through her mind? More like: "How much more could she possibly take?"


I'm not saying that what she did was right. I'm saying don't pass judgement on somebody like that without knowing all of the facts. Like the saying goes, "Don't judge a man lest you walk two moons in their moccassins."

In the meanwhile, let's just close the chapter on this, because discussions like these tend to end rather poorly.




P.S.: It boggles my mind how she had relationship troubles. Not going to mince words here, she was HOT.

I have never battled depression so I not gonna comment about her being weak etc. but.... thing is you end you life now and you dont know where u would be tomorrow. Poor thing... she was very pretty and had brains, could've had a successful future. Heck... she coulda come back and run for Miss Trinidad and Tobago Universe 2011.
