I just had to put in my 2 cents:

- I never see a fete ask for ID.. they always ask for MONEY...
- I learned in a defensive driving course that when people are about to crash, they somehow manage to AIM for the very lampost/tree they trying to avoid... "Look where you want to go" is what I was told
 - Them tyres was DEFECTIVE, almost canvas, and combined with high speeds and a wet road (and possbly alcohol), it was a recipe for the outcome, unfortunately. May they RIP.

- madmunkie, while I see your views, you started to remind of a certain fella on a car forum who was 'dirty-faced' in his attitude to a car crash last year to say the least... that guy pissed me off...

Scenarios like these is why I don't play with my tyres n brakes.... I was fored to buy 4 new ones (2 kumho and 2 goodyear) a year after buying 4 previous new tyres for differing reasons.... but i know how I drive my car: tyres, brakes and defensive driving habits must perform as well..

WTMC at a student wanting to beat down my quoted labour charge for installing windows from $450 to $300... and I had already worked out the costs of such and a new hard drive with his mom. (this is WHY I asked him to have his parents call me to ensure that the transaction was legit)

I told him just pay me for the hard drive and take back his laptop, oui. I have no time nor desire for fighting down labour costs...

-WTMC at a 160GB IDE laptop hard drive costing ~$600

- WTMC at my department suddenly realizing - after 2 years - that they need to do something about the wanton theft and vandalism of the computers in the main computer lab.
After repeatedly complaining about it and their lack of interest, usually summed by me getting stuck with enforcement and the fact that HoD Maths/IT declared that I cannot deny the kids the right to access  the lab, I stopped bothering.

The issues:
stealing of mice and keyboards
popping off and hiding/stealing keys off the keyboards
graffiti written on the tables and computers
facebook

As fast as the stuff is cleaned/repaired/replaced the students do it ll over again with reckless abandon... they KNOW the IT department is not even making an effort to pursue them. I recommended cameras in June last year, it was not heeded (even the principal's own suggestion for them after my laptop was stolen is yet to be implemented: i hear the cry is "no money" these days)

Is probably about 100 mice had to be purchased over the last two years - with 35 of them being bought in January 2009!

Whatever yes, there are some battle you just should not enter. I learned that for sure.

The principal once told me after wasting $38000 on  one of those electronic smartboards (that to date only ONE out of the 60 teachers actually use) that he didn't want to be "left behind" by other schools in integrating IT into education.... what he fails to realize is that he been left behind by other schools long ago and IT HoD will keep that him there till she retires...

Cameras may help but there will always be some way to circumvent the effort.

They were: my laptop was stolen, wasn't it? and there is an ongoing theft ring in the school... laptops, ipods, phone, jansport bags get stolen routinely...

Easy solution, next time, leave a jansport bag with one of those exploding ink packets that banks use for money, when they open the bag, they will get ink all over them, and VOILA, you gots yourself a thief....

(AP)  BUENOS AIRES, Argentina - Witnesses say they saw a woman throw herself from the 23rd story of a Buenos Aires hotel Monday and survive.

The woman landed in a sitting position on the roof of a taxi whose driver got out just before the impact deeply dented his roof and shattered the windshield.

The woman, a 30-year-old Argentine, has injuries throughout her body and is being treated in the emergency room of the Hotel Argerich, said Alberto Crescenti, director of Argentina's Emergency Medical System.

The taxi driver, who gave his name as Miguel, reportedly said he saw a policeman looking up and that prompted him to get out just before the driver's side of the car was smashed by the woman's body.

Another taxi driver, Juan Carlos Candame, told Associated Press Television News that he saw the woman climb over a barrier and jump into the void.

The woman fell from the top of the Hotel Crown Plaza Panamericano, where a restaurant overlooks the landmark Obelisk in downtown Buenos Aires.

WTMC @ Being told that I have tears in my retina(possible detachment) by an optometrist on Friday.......being literally depressed over the entire weekend then on Monday to find out from a specialist that the optometrist fckd up the report by guessing and has been fckn me over by not switching me to contacts years now. Sigh eh....

I guess i wasn't completely clear before but when I went to my opthamologist the monday after....he told me that there wasn't a tear or any immediate risks of detachment at all. However, because of the big difference in strengths in my two eyes, he said that they should have given me contacts to start wearing years ago. So as a result of they(Joyce Ali) giving me thick asssss glasses for so long, my right eye and brain is strained. Fun stuff :/

If you check places in Asia and see how much glasses really supposed to cost and compare it to what obtaining down here, you'll see just how bad it is.

Go to Couva she is one of the best in the country call Rashmi Mathur optical, 679-7877 got mine there after going to value optical which tried to sell me a pair that was bout 8mm too small for my face... My entire glasses and frames with Anti Reflective coating was like $1400 and she brought in three frames for me to test the size (as my face seems to be very wide arounnd the eye area) without cost to me.
