I agree with the death penalty not being a deterrent to crime, but it is, to me, a necessary punishment for murderers. No 2 ways about it, you unlawfully take a life, then by all means, let the state lawfully take yours. Don't kill anyone unless you are prepared to die yourself.

I think what this country needs desperately along with full scale police reform, is prison reform. PPl who are caught with x grams of marijuana don't deserve to be in the same cell with someone charged for say aggrevated assault/robbery etc.

They should focus alot on "REHABILITATION" rather than "PUNISHMENT" at certain levels. Like i said, killers be killed. First time offenders of other crimes, for the most part, should be evaluated to determine whether they can be rehabilitated or not. If they can, they can become a true benefit to society, because while serving their time, the can be educated and prepared to enter a society as law abiding and educated citizens. The others should serve there punishment doing hard labor and recieving corporal punishment for their crime.

If these two systems are fully reformed, police able to detect, prevent and/or solve crime, and the prison systems able to apply fair punishment and/or rehabilitation facilities, I think we may be on our way to reducing crime.

Oh and I doh care what anybody say, rapist and child molesters deserve to be CASTRATED!

I honestly don't give a flying F^&K if the death penalty is a deterrant or not, I don't see why MY tax payers dollars are paying for the upkeep (regardless of how bad) of criminals who KNOWINGLY commited heineous crimes affect countless ppl. How many countries first world even have been able to rehabilitate and RE-introduce and RE-integrate serial killers? or serial rapist? or serial pedophiles?

same here i agree with crix. If business owners start packing, criminals will just execute you before you even have a chance to pull that gun you have under the counter.

Have you ever been to the bad areas of the BRONX in NY? Bullet proof glass is installed, customers have to talk to the person behind the counter through little holes. Merchandise and money is passed through a bullet proof box that opens on one side at a time. Perhaps that is the next step in customer service....

Training the police force not to accept bribes? Try paying them more so the bribe doesn't look so appealing, or making sure they are well educated and trained. Screen them before letting them join. Background checks on everyone applying to the police force, psychological tests and screening...It takes alot to implement. If they do that, then its a start. Otherwise we could talk till we blue in the face, nothing will change. It will only get worse..

i have lived in bk and bronx for a few years amongst other places. I know what its like.

is where law enforcement needs to go
But gun ownership is not a deterrent to crime
it never was and never will be
the reason americans have guns is not cause the founding fathers saw it as a way to deter crime

That can't be helped. We're humans and we're quite susceptible not only that, but to use passion as an impetus to reason. You've made a complete assumption about my character that fits comfortably in your worldview although you have no basis on which to do so given the nature of my words. You've already polarized me because I don't agree with your viewpoint out of hand. Some of my viewpoints may coincide but I am hardly a humanist even though I may not reject and sometimes even employ the label for the end goal of communication greater understanding. From my statement you have and had very little foundation on which to presume I'm a humanist. You directed your statement at me without justification and with the clear presumption that I did not know and could not empathize. I'm generally not surprised by your refusal to approach the issue critically and your claim that this is "over analysis". This is not your fault. It is called confirmation bias. It is the default nature of our minds. I do not exclude myself. However, you do not know me. You do not know my experience. You do not know how I "feel". I made no moral statement on the issue of the death penalty and there was none implied. You did direct a statement at me that does not logically follow from what I said.
