well he is right larry, its not very important in the working world, it may have inflated importance in one tiny field of the working world, but marketing is but a drop in the bucket of the working world, and thus the importance of social networking cannot be classed in the same arena of importance as say literacy, education,computing skill and or knowledge,being a team player blah blah blah.

I can call on another drop in the bucket field, IT. Facebook plays zero importance in the world of IT, or it can be yet another nuisance to add to our list of filter and block.

Actually laertes I never said facebook isn't a marketing tool, nor that marketing was unimportant. I was simply agreeing that from an IT admin or security admin, facebook is a nuisance rather than a useful tool thats all.

thats not true at all

not every business model requires marketing. True, vast majority of retailesque instituitions market their goods and servieces but not EVERYYYY establishment needs marketing.

Take illuminats in house servicing of its holding companies computers and networks.
They charge their brother and sister companies for their goods and services and MAKE A PROFIT but of course dont need to advertise

Sure you feel passionately about your field, and thats ok, but it really is still just a drop in the bucket.
That bucket is large and diverse, not every business would need a marketing department for their business even if they are marketing but some products "sell themselves" and so the acquisition and or production of said products matter alot more than the marketing of said products.
You almost seem like you think marketing is the most important field in any company??

Do you work in a marketing or communication related field? I'm pretty certain that if you did your outlook would have been different. Either way is just a different POV, no biggie.

You might just be right. I work in a bank, so I know just how important Marketing and Communications are.

I think W1ntry and Crixx hit the nail on the head about it being a nuisance from an IT Admin standpoint.
I've seen waaaaay too much company time/bandwidth wasted by big people who should know better.

When companies here start firing people for frivolous internet usage, all that will stop.

This one is for the record books
I came from a hand over session today for a major project that was to be implemented this month
The project was complete on the vendors end.....but cannot be completed on our end. So we have to pay them.
So my hand over training and knowledge gain cost the company ALOT....I MEAN ALOT of money and all i have is a powerpoint presentation and a flow chart.
