There is practical and just absurd, crixx for the most part you're being absurd. Just because you take a 5 to deal with pressing matters of humanity and global/environmental issues doesn't mean you just abandon the technology at your disposal or the research of updated and revolutionary tech. It just means instead of all these damn professors sitting in a room thinking $hit up about how many floating brains there are in space, they could be sitting in a room trying to figure out what is the cleanest fuel available and the most efficient way to procure it. What good will it do all those research facilities if the sea level raises and floods the damn labs?

Genius on their level is INSPIRED and not learned. so just because they have the gift to think of such macro and quantum issues, doesnt mean they will be any good at the common mans problems

I hear where you're coming from with a 'genius' being or not being able to practically address the more humane problems so you score some marks dere. I still believe there needs to be more creative genius working on man's more present situations and problems though and I am sure if even 1 of those genius' out there can do it, it would be worth the transfer of said resource. You forgot to mention other things like Faster than light communication (which I think blow mind as opposed to aluminium shrinking) but it's still nothing to be scoffed at. If they can use it to shrink our refuse then BY ALL MEANS!!!

Still think its a waste of human genius when we could very well use some of this intelligence to deal with the pressing matters. It's like in most cases, we look to solve the mysteries of space and haven't even discovered 90% of the ocean. I am not suggesting its a bad idea to dream, however I can see wasted effort or at least effort that will not bear fruits for DECADES to come, whilst there are other grave problems facing humanity that WARRANT our undivided attention. To use a quote "before you take the splinter out of your brother's eye, take the PLANK out of yours" or something to that effect. Focus on the grave, then solve the imaginary.

Their intelligence has a proclivity towards physics and science. Intelligence isn't always this non-descript and fluid potential that can be poured into any subject matter for efficience (see: 'multiple intelligences'). They're doing their job and there are think tanks all over the world doing their job to addresses the issues you've raised concern about... all with their own convictions and all seeking ways to make the world a better place in their own way. But...as Crixx said (andherecomesoneoftheraretimescrixxandiagreeonanythingever) they as intellectuals usually face objection from less that intellectual leaders and governments and selfish private interests. What is a dream is the idea you of linearalising discovery in terms of perceived (though rational) importance. That's completely idealistic and will never work and can actually impede the process of discovery.

To be honest...people thought the same way of computers in the early evolution of the theory and technology. Looks at where it is now....and imagine that this technology is still in the stages of it's infancy.

Qloxx, boy I feel it for you. It is really pressure at times with some customers. And I could tell you some customer horror stories. I'm sure you've seen a few of them on this very thread.


Just recently I have written up my new company policy and rates. Let's just say you has better know how to navigate windows confidently. Some of the issues you want to be calling me  to come to your house (thru all the MC traffic we have now!) for is some 'simple' problems where instead, I could just easily talk you through it. When I start to hit you TT$175/hr + Transport + VAT just to show up at your house (and this is STILL a lot cheaper than most companies out here who don't do house calls - MC customers too cheap!!), you will learn very quickly.

And most women does quickly learn to do basic car maintenance after a few trips to the mechanic for simple ish?

Well, I did spend about 5 hours in Princes Town, otherwise it was go, go, go:

Diego to POS by taxi - $5
POs to S/F'Do by taxi - $13
S/F'Do to P/Town  by taxi- $6
P/Town to Rio Claro by maxi - $6
Rio Claro to Mayaro by maxi - $4
Mayaro to S/Grande by taxi - $10 (the best ride of all, endless coconut trees, sea breeze, green everywhere and you're about 4 minutes walk (max) from the sea for at least 75% of the ride. Level pace too: no wonder it does have police speed traps! Taxi was pushing 140Kmph on smooth road that 2 buses have to stop to a crawl to pass each other. the ride was just over an hour long.)
S/Grande to Arima by taxi - $6
Arima to POS by maxi - $5
POS to Diego by taxi - $5

Bar the stop in P/Town, I spent an estimated 7 hours in a vehicle

Dread, that does be one route I does HATE to travel on, I does feel like I need to take a new insurance policy every time I get into one of those taxis...

BTW, if you didn't have to make a stop in Arima, you could just have taken a maxi from Grande to POS, $8.
