A 21-year-old woman died from massive chest injuries and a broken neck which she sustained in an early-morning accident yesterday.

According to police reports, Stephanie Camps, of St Lucien Road in Diego Martin, was driving a Mazda 929 heading towards Diego Martin at around 6.15 am, when she lost control of the car.

The car slammed into one of the columns under the flyover in the vicinity of Powder Magazine. The woman died on the spot.

A District Medical Officer viewed the body and ordered its removal hours later.

^^ yet people still think the breathalyser will help, i said before i'll say it again, sleep drivers get in more accidents than those with 3 beers in their gut.

I'll tell you a story of my near miss with death:

30 July 2005. The day my dad was buried.

You know the motions of a funeral, so I need not go back there. Come back home to the post funeral 'gathering'. Had one girl who stay in my company whole day when even my own friends couldn't. A week before (the day my dad died) I visited her and things had gotten slightly steamy.
To cut a long story short, it got a 'bit steamier' (but no blazing) in the rental car parked somewhere in town that night. It is nearly 4am when I decide to call it a night.

Drop her home and drove home from town.. After such a long testing day, sleep was knocking hard at my door, overcoming me to the point where I had to shout "FOCUS!!" at myself to stay awake. Managed to reach Diego, but parked up near Crystal Stream traffic lights to take a quick doze. I must have gotten about 15 minutes sleep before I decided to go home. I am driving along the straight stretch approaching the Laundry Mat (the highway extension hadn't been finished yet) and  I saw some dude in white on the shoulder. My first thought: "WTMC this guy doing there at this hour?", so I looked back  to get a second look. Is then I ketch myself:

I was about 6 seconds away from crashing into the Laundry Mat at probably 50 or 60Kmph. The really strange thing is that I was still holding the wheel and was still in my lane. I frigging fell asleep at the wheel for probably as long as 10 to 15 seconds! An act of god that the dude in white appeared on the shoulder? Who knows...

One thing for sure: the sleep by Crystal Stream ent do sith: Within maybe 20 seconds of driving off I must've dozed off again.

Use the car lighter, touch it to your left thumb for a second or 2, make sure and ACTUALLY burn yur self.
to the point where yu need to wrap yur thumb to protect it from air exposure,that sorta pain keeps yu awake lol

i did that in front a girl once... yeh... she doesnt call any more

/\ Very close call indeed saxman. The part with the steamy sessions, the ironic thing is at times when major things like these happen, you'd be supprised how totally off key your emotions are. However it is glad to know that you overcame and drove home in one piece.

One thing I never want to experience is falling asleep at the wheel. The most that happened to me was a night I coming from south to go Arima and I in the vicinity by Seraram Bros. I driving feeling normal and all of a sudden I seeing sheep running across the highway. I start thinking bwdmc, is then I relaized I had dropped asleep and reached up to 120 km/h (from driving at 95 km/h). So I said, let me try something. Got it up to 140 km/h and that kept me awake. Me having to be alert and active at such high speeds really kept me going all the way home.

I know some of y'all would say that is not the right thing to do. I don't blame y'all, but it worked for me at that time. I'm not gonna try it again to see if it is ture and really works.

Another time I succesfully fought sleep by using your very technique: drive at high speeds. Went a party in Chaguramas. Dropped two girls home in Valencia @ 5:30am and then drove back to Diego. I hit 160kmph twice with the music loud and the driver's window down with an average speed of about 135kmph. Valencia Junction to Diamond Vale: 35 minutes.

btw: did you REALLY see sheep, or was it another "act of god"??

up to this day I cannot answer, but I know I did see sheep run across the road. I dunno if it was a message. But they didn't come into close contact with the car. One thing, yuh see d a/c, that is an ultimate killer. That cold breeze go make yuh feel sleepy. But the worst (as my dad experienced) is real sea breeze from maracas bad. That comes like sleeping gas, as it hits yuh face especially yuh eyes, it takes yuh one time!
