WTMC at offices!!

I was called by an office by a person we'll call "Mr. Y" to discuss network security matters. This office has no IT person, just a plain workgroup of 20 or so PCs.

No one is IT literate so he asked me to explain if it was possible that other computers to access his computer. Then he showed my a printer that  was auto discovered by windows XP in another computer. After my explanation of how it happened he talks to his boss and I was instructed to "remove the rogue printer", which mean that I had to find the computer which has the rogue printer attached. There is no standard naming structure for the computers in the office so I had to go to each computer in the building to find this printer if it became necessary.

I was led by Mr. Y to a room. Mr Y. asked the guy in the room to let me access the computer so I can find and remove said printer. But I did notice that Mr. Y seemd to be 'throwing talk' for the guy about having a password on the computer, as if to imply that the guy had something to hide.  It was only after i logged in that I realized that the computer is not even connected to the network! there was another computer that was on the network but its network name did not match the name of the computer I was looking for. I declared that the computer Mr. Y and I were looking for was not there and left the room, thinking he'd following me to continue the search.

But as I was leaving, I noticed that Mr. Y was looking through the My Documents folder of one of the computers and opening files. When I was outside the room the door closed behind for a good 15 minutes!! I heard after that the boy was 'interrogated' by Mr Y. about the contents of the files!! Now the boy's department and Mr. Y department are two totally different department and he is just a clerk. How dare you use me as a chess piece! to satisfy your personal agendas!! I actually came there thinking that i could propose a security plan for the office and pitcah that they buy some basic equipment...

I made sure to report the matter to his boss (3rd in command) and explained to him that I will not tolerate being used to facilitate personal agendas.

I now have to keep a sharp eye out for nonsense like this. I could only imagine I could have lose my job for being a pawn if I were actually an employee.

*by the way, the printer was never found...

hes right, I'm in the middle ah dis cape janjat too..and well, once these exams finish.. (starts on the 23rd of june for me, finishes on the 18th OF FCUKIN JULY) we have to go right back to school as they like to start the second year syllabus early..

Plus on top of what used to be holidays, we have lessons to go to also..

I must really have a "mess with me" sign written on me somewhere.

Gone to Piarco (old terminal side) to go and get chicken sandwiches. I am making my order when this smally guy (obviously drunk) tries to over over my shoulder. I am taller and bigger than him and yet he still trying to order. I used my left arm and tell him to get back in line and at this point he starts to carry on and make a scene. I finally got my sandwiches and spun around to him to address him.

He now realizing what he had to deal with went to his car and stuck his head in the driver's side as if to talk to somebody. I noticed three other guys jump out of the car and started to walk towards my direction. I noticed none of them were carrying anything (nothing in hand and they were not concealing anything with the clothes they had on). I simply rest my sandwiches on the car, disarmed the alarm and opened my trunk. I took out and said good evening fellahs. They just stopped where they were, replied evening and went back to their car
