Dear Customer...

I regret to inform you that this is a very serious problem that if left unattended WILL blow up your computer. The only solution is to
give me (the_unknown) your username and password so that this situation can be rectified as soon as possible.

Proto's question is very apt...

To me the key here is that it says you can download at x speed "from our servers"...meaning TSTT of course. But there's nothing to be downloaded from their servers of any real interest...however, it also means that data is pushed from their servers to you at those speeds, which is good, no bottleneck there...but how fast is the data fed to their servers before it hits you?

I've always taken their speedtest with a lump of salt...and it's barely worth the cost of that salt mind you...test with international speedtests instead for a more reliable judgement on your throughput.

Here's a couple nice ones...

10 megabit impossible unless you live down the road from TSTT  interchange and giving everyone in the head office ''favours'' .. though the the 125k reading is possible but i doubt TSTT so slack... they'll lock it down sooner or later ..
though both might be a bug in your browser reading the cache as what tstt sent..

until then i advise you to give me your username and password to protect you and your family from internet demons...

Even that doh make a difference. I know a person living close to the exchange in south. In fact his rates are steady at 32kbps which is about avg but not as high as some other ppl I know so nope, not even.

As far as I know, the 10Mbps is only possible using the "new" Paradyne modems as they are ADSL2 modems...

It was prolly some glitch or some favour ;)

Word on the vine is, we getting ADSL2 soon. TSTT gonna replace all the $h!tty ADSL speedstream modems with those ADSL2 Paradynes. That's why they been having so much downtime and upgrade notifications.

Plus they're planning to offer plain ADSL (at a higher speed than what we currently "enjoy") at a much lower than dial-up price (~$250)

But we still have to mc wait and wait and wait and wait...

I agree with Trini here (rare occurence) I have a paradyn modem (and still waiting for TSTT MCs to activate meh account) and I can tell you TSTT will NOT give you a modem for free. In fact by a customer I went to recently, TSTT charged them $300 to replace the modem and that's not inclusive of re-installation which prolly was wha happened the first time around. Imagine you paying ppl for a service and want to upgrade your service to a 'faster' offering and they tell you that you MUST pay for the NEW modem (ignore the fact that you taking a faster MORE EXPENSIVE service from them) but on TOP of that want to charge you to re-install your new equipment? TSTT and all governent run/partly owned institutions have such a NASTY 'something for NOTHING' mentatlity and lets not even talk about how they does strike and demand more money all de fc^&ing time and they sitting on they @$$. etc etc etc. As long as your modem working and all they offering is 256k at most 512 your current modems will HAVE to lime sorry to say. As trini say the grape vine SOUR. Vinegar anyone?

And then it have people like me who living in civilization (Caroni - real close to St. Augustine) and can't get DSL. I tell you, if T$TT decide to offer any upgrade to existing customers without expanding de available coverage, they dotish for years. Oh wait, I forget who I was talking about.

Yes there are alot of things a speedstream can't do, eg/. NAT-T, IPSEC pass through, protocol forwarding beyond your basic TCP, UDP. They are also no longer in production by their Manu (read Seimens) that should say something about their longevity. There are alot of things I could go on about, but by now you should get the idea.

cuz you've got a 10 mbs connection to the router ( which in turn has a 256kbs connection to TSTT)

You can always test it using a third party's bandwidth test like Czar suggested. I've actually now become a fan of www.speedtest.net so you may want to test your real speed there.

Also, try to dl something really big thru HTTP, like go dl SP2 for WinXP. That's about a 270+ MB download. You'll see your true http speed that way.

And try installing the free bandwidth meter suggested by Arcman here: http://gatt.carigamers.com/index.php/topic,9033.0.html
