An example of the kinds of 'deals' to be avoided when buying a complete system based solely on what
someone says on a forum.

Yuh could buy the PC from the site yuh know, but always ask questions about the parts: age, warranty, condition,
price. People just buy these things without asking these very pertinent questions, and then moan that they got ripped off
afterwards.

My questions were legit ones, which the seller could not answer.

That's right, Arcman. I think you might have saved a few unwitting potential buyers from possibly being scammed.

It made me laugh when his starting price was $4800, calling it a 'real deal', and then, a few posts down, he said 'It now selling at a loss for about $4800', the same price. On top of that, he seemed awfully defensive when you and a few others questioned him on the validity if his claim, only to say 'Well, ah throw in a mouse and ah wireless keyboard and meh jockeyshorts for 1100, ahm....yeah, that's it' as if that would have made up for the 4800 price tag, when in fact, such items go below $300, and would still acount for the system being sold for $4500. Besides which, when did he say that those were part of the deal? Did they magically appear, or something?

I am so sorry somebody didn't heed your advice and actually bought the thing, though.
When multiple people throw up the red card at something like this, it's time to be scrupulous.

For that price you coulda get allot more than that yes. I cant understnad how people stupid so....then the man JUSTIFYING himself by saying he know what he talking about. I think he keeps his brains in his @ss.
That 2ner site does piss me off LEVEL. Some real ignorant and not to mension STUPID people on that site. The low level of intelligence there is just staggering. I am not going to say anymore...because i go insult the hell out of them,and i really dont feel like doing that. WHat a bunch of "ordinairy" people.

I jes do a comparision of figures of the same system...
If I had to do the system NEW it would not cross $4100 (note he did not mention any monitor)

when I NOW start to use these forums... I sell a complete used system (AXP 2800+, 1GBDDR, 80GB HDD, and a lot more) to a friend of mine for $4500... and i had to change the 128MB GF5900 to a brand new 256MB GF6600 (out of my pocket..$800 imported!) and they still get FULL 1 yr parts/labour wrnty.

as a side note... any of the custom system builders out here does really sell 'legit' software? (i specifically referring to WIndows XP itself)... I realise that the most of the ads in de papers with the sub-$4000 systems doh have a legit XP. and it seem those customers in the know not willing to pay the extra $700 for the XP home ($1100 for the Pro)
..i may have gone off topic here... but the feedback is appreciated. If anything i go start a new topic for this issue.

We do, but it is always a hard sell.

Dell has legit XP on their systems and is cheaper than custom built, part for part. Economies of scale I guess.

So it makes it even more difficult to compete against them with a white box system.

All the same, we still push it because of the issues with WGA, SP2 and automatic updates. It saves the customer a ton of hassle if they have the legit XP.

Better to send the box with the legit OS than face the issues of supporting a pirated one.

To me, it always pay to know somebody in this type of thing.
I saved $100 on a DVD Burner just the other day, simply because I stopped and asked my friend if another DVD burner I saw earlier that day was a good buy.
