High-tech bikini combats sunburn

UV meter built into its belt

By Tony Dennis: Wednesday 26 July 2006, 11:04

DESCRIBING ITSELF as Canada's premier swimwear catalogue supplier, Solestrom had added an interesting item to its collection. A woman's bikini with a built-in UV meter.
The company's SmartSwim UV bikini features a digital UV meter built right into the garment. The idea is to warn the wearer about the dangers of sunburn and how long you should stay in the sun without getting hurt.

With interest in the risks from skin cancer high, this little number should sell well. Apparently it is made out of 100 per cent top quality Lycra and available in three colours – Techno Silver, plus black or white.

Not only is the meter itself waterproof, it should last for years on its CR2025 batteries. On more moderate days, the belt onto which the meter is mounted can simply be removed. You can also have the meter facing inwards – just in case you don't want to look too nerdy.

The good news is that as an introductory offer, Solestrom is taking 26 per cent off the normal asking price of $109.99. The INQ calculates that to be $81.43 not $139.99 as the site currently states.

Wow. I seriously doubt that a bikini selling for close to $80 US would do well.
In Beverly Hills, perhaps.
Then again, how many people would go for a bikini with a belt?
I'm no Elsa Klench, but I'm guessing that's a fashion no-no.

But even self.....don't most people just slap some sunblock on them, anyways?
And that probably goes for like under $20 bucks up there.
On top of that, it prevents sunburn altogether.

Long story short, with what's being proposed, it sounds about as useful as a car alarm.
...and anybody can tell you just how much attention we pay to those.....

locally, $300+ is normal for a bikini.

US$80 / TT$500 isn't so much of a stretch.

Never underestimate how much money women are willing to spend on clothes. Bane of our existence! lol

but yeah, I don't think the belt would be a favourite fashion statement for a bikini either.

A wrist band or something more auxilary may have been better.

Really?
Well, I'm no chick, so I ent really know the price of a bikini.
All us fellas have to do is strap on a jockeyshorts and hit the beach, if you know what I'm saying.

....that too.

But, you know. Had I had my way, all women would be required to go to the beach naked.
And by 'all', I mean 'pleasing to look at hotties', and NOT 'wrinkled, 400+ year old ancient fruit bats'.

Of course, had I had my way again, this law wouldn't be restricted JUST to the beach.
If you know what I'm saying. :D

Good question. I suppose we'll find out when the first chick wearing it hits the water. If she explodes in one big, gruesome fireball, then I guess it's not waterproof.

.....ah, no.
Don't you accuse ME of being so gruesome.

I am sure they already have these things... but umm guys I know this is a predominantly male forum, but we surely have some female members and if we continue like this we're gonna offend someone so let's clean it up a bit.
