AMD price cuts

Well see AMDs official price cuts
here
. What is interesting to note ppl is the LACK of 1MB L2 cache processors... so I am waiting patiently to see those prices drop and the X2 4400+ price to go down so I can grab it up before there aren't anymore. It's clear this is the route AMD is going and i've posted on the forum to that extent already. Otherwise the 4600+ for say 260USD after markup will be the route for me. For those in the real budget range, there is a X2 3600+ due out on the AM2 platform soon, I hear the estimated price should be around 160USD, so maybe in the 150-180USD since the X2 3800+ will have a SKU of about 150USD in 1000 quantities. Either way dual core is about to get ALOT cheaper and the 1 thing I have to say I am happiest about is the fact that if you ALREADY own a 939 socket mobo yuh could upgrade to X2 without buying a new mobo. Lemme hear allyuh conroe whores say that! (doh get meh wrong Conroe is a BEAST, but with the added cost to switch... it's just outta my budget atm).

wow, those are some INTENSE price cuts.
The x2 4200 goes for nearly US$400 at the moment.
Down to US$187.00
Can't wait to see what the street value is for that.
The AMD AM2 processors cost the same as their 939/754 brethren and the mobos are pretty cheap too (US$80.00) so it is looking more and more tempting.
Then again, Core 2 will be just US$120.00 more for total and utter pwnage. Though I would still need to buy RAM. Another US$100.00
Damn, that's getting too rich for my blood.
One thing for sure though, processing power is getting CHEAP!

The decision is simple at the moment, AM2 ftw.
because Core 2 Duo not out for sale as yet. lol
(AM2 is same price as 939, so no sense limiting yourself at this stage if you're buying new stuff. DDR2 mem not withstanding)

I dont see the point in buying a Conroe for gaming for another year for the least. Well unless you have like a 32 inch widescreen or something you wanna game on.

But if yuh on skt 939 already, would it not make more sense (price/performance-wise) to upgrade to a X2 CPU, instead of replacing mobo and RAM to go AM2?
Are the performance gains between say, a 4400 X2, and its comparable AM2 variant worth spending all that money for?
From where I sit, I think not.
Somebody fling up a link comparing X2 to AM2 dey.

the processor are practically the same. The difference by AMD's estimation, in moving to AM2 is 1% at the moment.
By independent benchmarks it is only slightly greater than that.
If you are on Socket 939, there is no need to worry about AM2.
AM2/Core 2 Duo is really a consideration for folks buying a new PC or if on older tech (754, Socket A)
Especially if you're looking at price/performance.
