Guilty Gear (and smash) challenge
«
on:
July 20, 2006, 05:40:34 PM »
Alright so here's what goin on. I swung by GATT today and dropped a challenge. Just posting here for details, notification and additions...
Myself (stalebread/inc0g), fenrir and 3C challenge anyone to a 3v3 (or 2v2) first to 10 full wins matchup of guilty gear X2 Slash. *mutter*3C also says he'll take anyone on in smash melee that thinks they're worth his time*mutter*.
Did some digging and here's who I'm calling out for starters:
Imperial (well you say you're out for a couple weeks so bleh)
Akuma (Let's see your order-sol)
Shizz (I hope you still playing this game)
Obeahman(ditto)
Sheppard(spelling?)(Well.. never heard of you really except that you're "good")
Ultima (Call it me taking you up on your challenge in another thread)
These are just who I've heard of but if you think you can take us, please feel free to join in.
Apart from a 3v3 or 2v2 (CvS2 style) we'll also take anyone on 1 on 1 (frst to 5 though)
Here are my proposed rules.
No ex,gold, shadow,#r chars or cliff or justice. Right, that's outta the way.
No char change allowed unless you lose.
99 sec. round
3/5 match (ok well maybe for the 3v3 or 2v2 we'll do 2/3)
BYOC/S- please bring your own controller/stick cuz you may not like ours as much. For instance I <3 my controller cuz it's broken in.. everyone else despises it.
That's it for now.

I have a problem with this.
First of all, you're trying to go for tournament settings. Don't go that way. There aren't sufficient players to play teams etc. You'd be better off just having sets.
Reload characters should be allowed. Let's face it, some slash versions flat out suck in comparison.
One last thing, slash is one game. Do you play any other fighting games? A little hyper or some CvS2 or some 3s or Soul Calibur... anything at all?

K out with those tourney settings. My bad. And yeah a friend recommended the #r thing as well so I guess majority rules
.
As for othr games.. I can't play 3s (yet), I can sorta play SC2 and CvS2.. well.. I never bothered getting into alot but I'm starting to like kof characters so I may pick up new kof and then try out CvS2 again. One of us DOES play CvS2 though and we all are pretty decent in alpha3 so if you have em, bring em.

Brilliant. Would be nice if we could play some good ole XX and see how you fare in that as well. I like how you said you can't play 3s (yet). Analyst, Akuma and myself are always looking for new blood.
Anyway, until that time we cross paths...

Well just some comments on Saturday I guess:
@ Imperial: Good.. GOOD games man. I've never seen a Johnny doing those things in person before. And his pressure is very good as well. Axl bomber loops were almost always spot on. FRC ability had me impressed. And then there was sol. Haha obviously I was afraid for a few matches until I started to figure out how to really play against him. Something I've ben trying to learn for some time now. Whenever you goin to be in north in next couple weeks and want some slash (or perhaps regular XX if I remember how to play Millia there) competition let me know. Oh and if you don't mind, what is it you don't like about slash exactly in terms of changes?
@ Sheppard: Well unfortunately we didn't get in too many games but there's next week. You played very well too but after spending a couple hours studying sol and you not having the experience against Millia I guess I had that small advantage. Still VERY impressive though
@ anyone else wanting to take me up: Let me know.

wish I was there to see the beatings.
btw, it seems to be a recurring modus where a winner is not announced after such challenges.
Is it by intention?
Is it that the competitors are not really interested in who won overall but just the competition itself?
Is it that they hesitate to post the results for fear of embarassing their opponent and risking losing a worthy rival for future matches.
I just want to get a feel for where the players mind is at.
Should we have a bi-partisan person record the scores and post them to avoid those "issues"?
You know, for the rest of us who missed out but would like to know what the scores were at the end.
A "witness" to quote sebastian, lol

Everyone who missed out should have been there. It's simple really.
I was impressed by the performance of these guys.
Incognito : Dangerous millia player. Learned some things the hard way, like how she can pick up her hairpin. Nasty stuff that.
Stalebread: I beleive you were the Testament player correct? Regardless, nice mixups with blood nets and all that. Gravedigger loops and gravedigger overall was annoying. You used Ky as well didn't you? I saw in vids why he was top tier now I know why/ Good character use there.
?: I can't remember this guy's name but he played a disgustingly mean Order Sol and Robo Ky. I thought and actually still think Order Sol to be a crappy character but seems he found a way to use him. Still haven't changed my mind about that though. Well played Robo Ky. First RK player I've ever come against since I started with XX where I wouldn't bother going against secret characters.
Good sets fellas but I had a difficult time playing one person and adapting from one style of play for 3 rounds and then switching to a different style of play when you passed the controller. Guilty Gear is a demanding ass game man. I'll choose to stop playing that many matches next time without a break.
I mean, I strain my head enough to remember things about the game as is. I didn't even make any good use of Johnny's Jackhound properly which I continually forgot to integrate into my game plan.
Not to take anything away from good players though, well played. I've never seen any other players heavy into FRC and JI techniques as much as myself till I played you lot.
Incognito, if your millia isn't on that similar level you're on with slash, I can guarantee you'll be dizzied a lot by XX Sol. I dislike slash for the fact that Axl isn't the combo machine he used to be. I was moderately pissed at #r for that but I got over that with the timing for his rensengek becoming a more workable 4-6 frames as opposed to the XX 1 frame.
Axl also lost his ability to use the raisaigek loop on regular hit which takes away from his cross up game. Bomber loops can't pass 2 reps now without a RC being used which is stupid to me.
Lol @ being spot on with FRCs. I was spending most of the time relearning the change in timing from XX to reload when I played you. There's a delay somewhat in reload and slash if you could recall from playing XX.
I'll try to lay off the SF and spend some time with Slash. No promises though, I eat and sleep SF. See you in August.

great report!
in other times, I would have quickly agreed with the fact that those interested should have been there...but let us face it...gaming isn't a spectator sport as much as we would like it to be.
Everyone is just as likely to be caught up playing some other game while the duel is going down.
It's not like foot ball where a football field, a ball and 21 other people are necessary to get a sweat.
So instead of letting the competition get lost in the melee, what about having someone record the results for posterity. This isn't for casual meet ups btw. Only official challenges.
Gives the competitors one less thing to worry about while playing and it may serve well to let them see how they feared against the opponent(s) when the dust settled.
Good idea or bad idea?

@ Imperial : I'm stalebread/ inc0gnit0. Confusing yeah but I use stalebread here, my bad haha. Other guy who you thought was stalebread is fenrir/Aaron. The order sol player is Charles/ 3C. Thanks for the comments. After this we're really thinking about holding that tournament though since I leave mid august it'll be pretty soon if we do.
Agreed on axl nerfing comment. They really messed up with tiers in some ways because ky.. an easy character to pick up is now extremely beastly to use to the point where he's no longer much fun for me (except for JI stuff and kix). Sol lost his dustloop but well he has so many options I find it pretty fair
. Reason Charles uses order sol now is because of how nerfed RK got. His #r RK is still sick however.
@ Baego: It's a good idea for official challenges. IMO Trinidad has a potentially ELITE gaming force and it'd be nice if we worked with that and made a larger community. More competition brings on improvement, which is why I really wanted this. I can honestly say I improved a great lot yesterday alone.
Unfortunately if we hold a tourney Baego it may clash slightly with your A3 tourney, ours being the sat. and yours being the sun. .. Originally we were thinking the sunday but well.. we like A3
lol so after hearing about it we may pass through to compete.
@ everyone: Play more gg
. It's not very popular but very balanced and fn
<-- shameless advertising

Janus was "sick" *cough*lazy*cough*. However orochi aka nick, his bro came down later and got a match against sheppard. Won but I say one match is inconclusive as both were just warming up really. Most likely both brothers will be coming down this weekend however. Then again I never know with those two lol.
BTW Imperial I expecting you at that tourney eh!

Damn, the things I do for love of the game. If I bite the bullet I might be able to come through saturday but it will definitely be late. Some time after 6pm possibly 7pm. I'm already doubting the fact that you guys will be there but I think I could handle some 3s in any event.

Agh, I think I out for saturday now (hadda tell shepperd dat too yes). Friday or Sunday looks possible though. Let us know. I think 6 or 7 of us (at LEAST 4) should be training this friday night. So if anyone wants to come through PM me for details.
P.S. I want to pick up another 2d fighter. Any recommendations? I like combos and deep tactics. Thinking kofxi for now.
