Trinity Cross Replacements
« on: July 20, 2006, 08:04:35 AM »
Let me start by saying that I have no problem whatsoever with the Trinity Cross being the highest award in the country and I don't personally believe that it is a religious symbol since it is named after the country and not the Holy Trinity.

With that said I decided that it would be a good idea to hear what possible replacements we could come up with to please the various citizens of our land.

My first suggestion is: The Hindubaptochristomuslimcostal days adventis shield.

This should be no problem with any of the religious organisations in Trinidad since it is all inclusive.

If you can come up with any other suggestions don't hesitate to post them here.

Shots in stereo. The AIDS man cometh!

Lol @ Hindubaptochristomuslimcostal days adventis shield.

IMO, this whole issue is about a bunch of people with nothing to do whole day just looking for something to nitpick on. Fine, Trinity Cross offensive? Why? because of the word cross? Why not just drop the cross and simply call it the Trinity Award?

BTW isnt there another thread with something about this Trinity Cross thing? I cant remember and too lazy to look.

it's named after the country.. which in turn is  named after the holy trinity..

i have no problem with it, but i can see how someone can..  since we live in a majority christian society, we think nothing of it..  but you have to be blind to not think that the cross does not have christian connotations

there should be clear separation of state and church..

that said, after the trinity cross, will we change the name of the country too?

I have done my best to steer clear of this topic as it really bites me that there is SO much religious and racial divide in this country without more IDIOTS making it greater. Although 'christian' myself I don't see in such black and white terms as to think an award is a reason of religious divide. I thank my old Secondary school for teaching me about other religions and other beliefs and with that type of schooling I am open minded enough to not give a FLYING ^&*( what the award is called. If they called it the Pelau award I wouldn't care. Why is it that leaders in particular can find NOTHING better to do, than to highlight and exagerate situations and occurences that until then were NOT a problem. I am also a MINORITY and i'm pretty mixed up with grand and great grand parents from totally different ethnic backgrounds and I see no need to CONTINUE to WEDGE this sword of bitterness and racial/religious divide further into the heart of this ONCE blessed country. I HATE the fact that we live under leaders that a so blinded by they selfish and disgustingly corrupted ways that we the ppl suffer. When will they stop indeed? after we rename Trinidad and Tobago Nameless and ignorant? We move national holidays like republic day to Shouter baptist day, and we have ppl that argue they need a TV station, RADIO, etc cause the other race has one... I am a minority hence in a sense belong to NONE or ALL but it matters NOT to me if there is a chinese, indian, african radio, tv, award, etc. WHY ppl WHY?

Ok now that I have finished ranting since I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE this segregated BULL$HIT, I have to say, that 'Hindubaptochristomuslimcostal' woulnd't work cause ppl would argue over which religion should be at the START of the name. ^&*(ing MORONS I say they are all.... when will GOD destroy this world and it's decrepit and selfish ways? well one can only hope soon.

I am SO steering clear of this topic. Out of fear that I'd go on a rant and start bombarding the forums with more f-bombs than should be legally allowed. I've said it once, and I've said it again.

Hmm but isn't the reason it's called a cross is because that is the shape as well? 0_o I doh know as i've never seen it, but I can't see it being named cross and not being in that shape. But I ask the question, is that to say that the Red 'Cross' Organisation which helps many ppl around the world regardless of race, religion, class, etc is offensive? I say that is BS. Only a person who in their own heart and mind has that defined line between religions/race/etc would see that. They put up a dia (not sure on spelling) on sando hill, or at least used to, and I never had a problem with that. I does light dia when divali come with meh Hindu padnas and I don't think it offensive as a 'christian' to be asked to help, heck I volunteer. THe ONLY reason I think ppl see this 'line' or worse yet take offense to something like this, is because they are from families who are themselves segregated or rather would segregate themselves from other ppl based on religion. Is it a problem that so many different religions go to Catholic secondary schools? I never found a problem, or a problem if I went Asja? and even moresover had to say christian prayers as a muslim? or hindu prayers as a christian? if this supposed offense is so great, then we'd all be going to schools belonging STRICTLY to our respective faiths. AGAIN THIS IS BULL$HIT. I think I best take Neo route and NOT post on this... I feel the f-bombs coming on.

seeing as this is in the 'rum shop' i have no obligation to be serious...

My suggestion would be that of two doubles bara, with channa in the middle of them....come on...every one loves doubles!

As for my honest views on it...well this week i openly voiced it in work, and was told never to do so again, apparently it comes with working in the media...but so far my views are pretty much shared with most of the members of this fourm.

Wow. leartes dealt one decent trump card in that argument.
I will just say one thing, though.....different things have different meanings to different people.
I'm pretty sure the Trinity Cross was never intended to be 'religious' and whatnot, but some people, upon seeing a 'cross', automatically assume 'OMG JESUS'.

On that note,we'd have to find a new symbol to add 2 and 2.
Somebody, sooner or later, is going to get offended by the fact that we have to use a cross (+) to make more of something. Heck. Let's obliterate the common letter 't' from the alphabet, because it looks exactly like the cross (well, not in this font, anyway, but you know what I mean.)
Our national anthem might need an overhaul too, because HEAVEN FORBID 'And may God bless our nation', am I right?

Society, on the whole, is turning into a cesspool of freaking 'much ado about nothing' complainers.
I mightn't exactly be one to talk, seeing as how I'm complaining right now, but it makes me utterly sick to see people constantly b***h about things that were never really issues in the first place.

What about the constant bombings?
Widespread poverty?
Crime on the freaking rampage?

You see what I did there?
THESE should be the things we should be complaining about.
But no....let's just complain about something SO FREAKING TRIVIAL.
As far as human beings as a species goes, we're practically doomed, because we'd become so damn nitpicky over what's offensive or not that we'd end up in a black and white society. Just wait and see.

well i dunno bout all yuh but the trinity cross dosent look like a christian cross. its a more square cross like the cross on the swiss flag meaning unity.although the knoghts templar wore this cross on their uniform, it does represent other things.

any way you slice it, the cross ( any cross) is associated with christianity

just as the swastika, even though is originally a hindu symbol, is associated with the nazis in the west (albeit modified.. the first thing many think of when they see it, is hitler)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika

we are a secular country, that should not show any bias towards any group..  the award clearly is biased..

what you do on your sunday ( or whatever day) is your business, and no one wants to interfere with that..

but if the award were a upside down pentagram, how would you as a christian feel about hangin that around your neck?  i mean, people could say is just a arbitrary mathematical symbol.. but you cannot escape its association with Satanism

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentagram#Religious_symbolism

is the same thing for them

you cannot have 'Tolerance' as a watch-word of the country, yet tell the other religious groups that their gripe is unfounded.....  the outrage alone about ' takin God out of the country' shows clearly that the award has a christian bias.

they are not askin the award to be changed to a hindu om , or a muslim crescent star and moon..

but something secular.. which represents the state....  instead of having the state  shove one group's  beliefs down the rest's throats

Well there's a simple solution you know? we just de-symbolize EVERYTHING and take REligion out of everything and we all wear the same clothes. Then we'll all get along as noone would seem any different than the next. Wait.. that sounds alot like Communism, ah well. I think ppl need lix for making such ado about nothing. I second neo's last response. We have too many other problems to be arguing about something like this. As for that upside down pyramid, up until you told me that it is associated with satanism I would have worn it. I may not wear that now for the sake of ppl segregating me for wearing it, because THEIR intepretation is different from the meaning it would have, which you said would be the highest award in the country. Symbolism and representation is something in the humans mind. I could very well make a pendant that looks like a pentagon with a 5 sided star and think of it as being a honour, whereas someone else would see a demonic symbol. Everything is relative.

You say I jump about, and sure I do, but it's cause everything is LINKED. The other things I mentioned have direct impact on a persons perception of things and it's pretty easy to see it all around. Non-chritians see a cross think chrisitanity and belittling ur religion... that is such a old, slave and master type mentality. I know that ppl get offended, I just think it's an exageration. I also agree with crixx, as a christian we should be upset others want to change it, but yuh don't see me loosing sleep over it. This type of pinpoint discrimination is ubsurd and I think the matter could have been handled much differently if everyone was more reasonable. All this noise about nothing when we can't even lime late anymore in fear of kidnappers, rapist, robbers and worse. I think the guy (I not calling names, but yuh know who I reffering to) who is at the forefront of this trinity cross matter needs to use his leadership status to do something about the REAL issues this country is facing instead of breathing more life into a racially, religiously segregated feud.

Hmmmm you know what? We in Trinidad and Tobago are soooo happy. We are a bag ah happy people with nothig to worry about. If we had some serious problems like a bad drought or severe flood like what Hati experienced the other day, THEN we would have something to complain about....not now though cuz we too happy.

That said...im not saying that this is not an important issue, but think of it this way...yes, i can see how the Trinity Cross can be seen as being biased and the offended parties have the right to complain about it. Fine, then change the name to one that they find more "acceptable".

But then what? Since they got their way, every man jack go start to find something offensive to he too and lobby like hell to get their way. Very soon we will end up like people in that movie Equilibrium. Remember that? Nobody allowed to have emotions and burn all religious symbols and everything else.

I agree 100%.

Individuality and what each of us believes is apparently too offensive to let loose any longer.
Let's all be one big BORING collective where we're all the same, and even the slightest hint of difference is punished by public flogging with 10 greased up spider monkeys.
