CPU goodies at Win Enterprises revealed X86 barebones router and small OpteronBy Charlie Demerjian: Tuesday 04 July 2006, 09:22 WIN ENTERPRISES is a company that makes way too cool products, and I have been ignoring it for way too long. The latest is a Via C7 based network appliance type box that you can do, well, do whatever you want with. It is called the PL-01027, and it looks like a little four port hub with a USB and serial port.Inside, it is a full X86 PC with a Via C7 at 400MHz, 1GHz or 1.5GHz, but if you ask sweetly, they will probably make it any way you want, mainly because that is what they do. It has one DDR2 DIMM, and four 10/100 Ethernet ports with either an Intel or Realtek chip. It also has an internal mini-PCI socket and a CF card reader, all you need to make the appliance of your dreams, just plug in a S-ATA or IDE drive. While you are perusing the site, make sure you check out the other neat little things it has, don't miss the 'platform solutions' or 'x86 reference design' sections. There are things like this insanely small Opteron board hidden all over the place. If you need a full PC with four S-ATA, a PCIe 16x and HT slots that fits in an 8 * 5.75 inch case, look no further. µ
