Now this is truly baffling.  It seems that my system cannot run this game properly at any resolution/setting.
On 'Enthusiast', the game looks outstanding, but gameplay is reduced to a horrible mess of freezing and stuttering.
Even to exit the game takes an inordinate amount of time.  All other games run perfectly well on the same system.

I even tried scaling back all the settings to 'Mainstream', which is essentially 'Medium', but no dice.  Same lousy
performance.  Reinstalling Windows (Vista x64) did not help either.  Keep in mind this is an original version eh.

I am now tempted to go back to XP just to see if there will be a difference.
Trust me when I say I am truly disappointed, especially in light of the fact that I bought it.  PRE-ORDERED it!!!

Steupssssss :(

Did anyone else play this on Vista?  If so, did you have any issues?

i played it through on Vista 64 on the 'Enthusiast' settings, but although the game's performance was worse than that in the original, it wasn't nearly as bad as what you're experiencing. only certain levels performed horribly and the game opened and closed normally. my guess is that it's a driver issue.

Would you believe it was a MEMORY issue!!?

...and here I thought 2 GB of system RAM was enough, along comes Crysis Warhead
to just trash that notion.

Damn thing running very nicely on 'Gamer' settings now.  on 'Enthusiast' however, it still freezes
after a while.  Come to think of it, COD4 doing that too.  Rolling back the video-card driver from 8.9 to 8.8
solved a crashing issue, but the games still freeze.

Ah boy...didn't get so much issues with Vista 32-bit eh.
I ask you: is this the price of progress?

On Vista 64 and 6gb memory, Single 4870 at 830/1100, quad @ 3.3 and warhead on "Gamer" i get a steady 38fps and upwards. More than playable imo.

vista 64 uses more memory than 32, at least that is what i noticed.

cap prob aint even feeling it, but when i was installed it in anticipation of my 4GB sticks i noticed the thing used about 1.2GB at idle...f that! i downgrade to 2k3, btw arc i interested in how the multiplayer is, you get the crysis wars right?

Haven't tried it yet, but now that I've gotten Warhead to play nicely, I'll certainly give Wars a shot this weekend.

Check THIS out.  An enterprising modder at the CryMod forums has come up with config files that
improve performance on the HD4870.

* wonders if it will work on the X2 *
