« on: May 16, 2006, 07:40:25 PM »
If you failed Physics there's a chance you can learn it all over again...

Now I know it's not really a new tech but I mean it's available at Newegg (for $299USD frick) and hoss...., umm DELL have 'em too jed (LIKE DUH....) ah well we now yuh know the Alienware buyout complete... steups

Nevertheless here's the name of the thing and some info:

My Geforce 7900GT just landed today and to be quite frank, I would quicker spend that additional US$200 in upgrading to an even better graphics card or upping my RAM than buying a physics card.

I think this part of the article says it best.

Final Thoughts

At its current state, the BFG AGEIA PhysX PPU card is a mixed bag.  On one hand, the card’s additions to Ghost Recon and the couple other titles that are in retail that support PhysX, are less than spectacular.  The changes in realism and visual quality are really minimal and I think most users would feel that the required additional $200 investment wouldn’t be worth it quite yet.

Sounds like a way for retailers to make more money to me, dell can make another 100USD or so profit by selling something else we don't need.... I seriously doubt these will ever take off,  most people don't spend 200us on a graphics card or cpu ... Even ''high'' end systems would cut corners by not spending 100usd on a good sound card , fans , hard drives ( re use 2-3 old ones) .

Yeah Trini. I agree with you 120%

Neo, the card cost me about TT$2300.00 landed. It is an EVGA 7900 GT CO.

And yes you guys have me a bit worried with all the talk of 7900s failing. Mine is not a Super Clocked or GTX though.

From what I have read on the net, those seem to be the most problematic due to their higher clock speeds.

My fingers and toes crossed. lol

From what i saw at the PhysX booth, there is no real reason to buy that card as of now. However watching CELLFACTOR, a demo game using the physX engine realy makes your eyes pop out your head. Pheonminal, really. But i mean, thats a demo, its not even a complete game yet, and well...there arent enough games out there to warant the physX card.

I asked if the card takes strain of the GFX card. Nope.....doesnt. So basically if your system chugs in 1280x1024 maxed out, with the PhysX card youwill have physics along with thtat chugging. so bleah.

Im hearing the same thing Baego, especially when ppl do Benchmark tests on the GTX cards is when problems occer. Apparently they work fine UNTIL you do those tests. personally i dont care to.....once i can run max specs me eh cater.
