Competition has the giant running scared finally , after so many years with the Sh!tty pentium 4 intel now plans to spend money on advancing their architecture regularly in order to outpace ( or try to) AMD ... Rumours of integrated memory controllers by 2008 seem to be true , as a new architecture is scheduled to be released then...
This is both a good thing and a bad thing :
Intel won't slack off anymore, no more overheating , melt through motherboard, slow processors for high prices..
More speed for us , AMD will try harder to compete as well.. better prices etc...
Bad :
A new socket every 2 years? no longevity in motherboards for DIY systems , though since the prescott we haven't had longevity anyway...
Intel has enough resources and experience to kill AMD if they try hard enough.. which will be VERY bad for everyone , if they remain dominant AMD will go back to bieng an underdog....
Intel will grap top spot in desktop and mobile markets this year with the new Pentium 3 based Core architecture , AMD wil still grow alot in workstation and server market due to superior Opteron performance in multi processor systems... AMD should take back the lead in 2007 , intel in 2008.. basically a game of hopskotch , hopefully it will stay that way ,more or less even ...
