OK, these dates are guaranteed, so we can ignore this topic for a while.

Laqtel Launch::: 2nd October
TSTT EVDO :::::: End of October, their billing cycle starts at November 1st,

Its frustrating!!! TSTT said they were going to contract out the handling of the Residential EVDO to another company, but talks was not going good and they now decide to go it alone, hence the long wait

Will we be getting the full 2.4Mbps and 3Mbps from TSTT and Laqtel respectively or are they gonna cap it down somewhat?

I hope they (TSTT) will have some kind of deals for laptop users who already have wired DSL.
Payin for both them services AND cellphone is kind of a stretch.

Dread is not like they have a gun to your head and telling yuh to take EV-DO, it's up to you, if you want to bear the brunt of paying for all simultaneously then daz your choice. Doh complain or ask for handouts cause you want everything for nothing :p

People, Laqtel for it, TSTT put we through too much in the past. Besides Laqtel is better, more powerful ev-do. So lets see TSTT sink together.

Rev. A uses something called the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) to pull off this magic, along with a latency period far lower than those on current networks (32 ms versus 150 ms). It's also backward compatible with existing Rev. 0 networks, and has quality of service (QoS) mechanisms built in. QoS is something you'd need if you wanted to do something like, oh, video over the channel, and needed to manage latency.

Now, Rev. A is just one step of the overall 3G-carrier strategy. Did I mention Rev. B? I really should.

 32ms + 100ms  local network + backbone-to-america latency = 132ms.. DSL class pings

 TSTT Evdo is 150ms + 100ms = 250 ms +..

We'll have to see how this plays off.. if laqtel gets a  good solid backbone and enough bandwidth we might see them beating TSTT dsl in everything but upload speed , since the backbone to america's latency is like 30 ms... but tstt network just sh!tty..
Also.. tstt might just upgrade dsl to compete, they could do it with a flip of a switch.

and joker.. baego has proved already EVDO WTF PWNZOR any other internet in trinidad for everything but latency ...    In the states you forget how HUGE the place is , distance will kill off bandwidth easily , and they won't put cell towers too close to residential areas either , Trinidad tiny in comparison and laqtel has 200+ towers operating , i'm sure it won't be more than 3 miles to the nearest tower , up in the states  non urban areas will be 15 miles + distance from a tower and get low ish speeds.
Plus in the states everyone and they granny will have it for their laptop, and real kill the bandwidth... Trinidad go be pushing dialup hardcore for a few years still .... And most n00bs won't be using full bandwidth.

Who's complaining?  I don't have EV-DO, but I'm interested in getting it.  I was simply 'speculating' on their intentions.  To assume (wrongly of course) that I'm looking for 'handouts' is premature, to say the least.  I was one of the early adopters of ADSL when the price was quite a bit higher than it is now, so go figure.

Of course, based on what I've been reading in this thread, it makes much more sense to wait and see what is Laqtel story.

Its simple as this.... EV-DO is for the mobile user. If you're using it for a fixed service, use flow trinidad. The latency on EV-DO, is comparable to Greendot, maybe even less.

Ok guys

I had my first hand look at EV-DO internet in action this morning via a client of mine based in Chaguramas.

They got a nice TSTT-branded USB Modem... all in a nice custom DVD case with plastic packaging, TSTT logo on the device itself, even the software is TSTT branded!

The customer's username and password is apparently pre-programmed into the modem before the customer receives it....

This be the lil bugger here:

EDIT: Pictures are for illustrative purposes only. When you get yours, the "CMOTECH" will be removed and the label on the back of it will have "TSTT" on it. If i get to do my own photos, i'll post again.

Manufacturer info page: http://www.cmotech.com/eproduct6-1.htm

I most likely repeating what may have been said in very early posts, but i go say it anway:
from what I observed, the speed was faster than DSL but most times not much faster. I did see a toast.net speed test give 1081Kbps one time, and 800Kbps a second time.

Otherwise I was not overly impressed, especially as the connection kept dropping every few minutes. You actually have to DIAL UP  to get connected... (I suspect is the location more than anything else, but I sure it is as good and fast as everyone else says if you go on town  or sando). Besides the proprietary config software, there is also a Dial-up networking Icon in My Networking Places, and it can be shared across your LAN.

This client of mine used it to replace their DSL connection, which really does not work well up Charguramas side.

bad reception might be modem too.. i think you can get  a better signal if it was mounted on top a shelf or something instead of behind the machine.. plus bigger antennae etc.

  but still , a connection 1mbit kicks dsl @ss...
