More resources than Azureus? Is that even possible? I thought that was the resource hog king of torrent. Give bitcomet a try and tell me what u think. Works great for me.

Nooo faddah BECAUSE it is java it uses MORE resources. I dont know who told you that it uses less, but that is the exact opposite from the truth. The bigger the torrent, the more memory and CPU cycles it uses.

Not taking away from the fact that it is indeed a great program, it, like a lot of other java programs, are resource hogs.

yeah, I have to agree. Used that Azureus before and it was a hog. Most java apps tend to be heavy on resources.

But from my readings on the net, they say the performance is poor without port forward.

Is it that BitComet works great even without port forward? That is, max speed?? (Say 32K downloads if you got a 256k DSL connection)

Yes that's right. It works at the max speed of the connection. On my 512 i get about 60-64, but speeds are also dependent on the number of seeders and leechers of the torent itself. Other that that, the bottleneck does not exist within the client itself (with or without port forwarding).

Problem with BitComet though is that it doesn't play well with private trackers...for instance, if you're on a private tracker, your upload stat is pretty important, unless you don't mind being seen as a major leech, but BitComet doesn't stick to the private tracker's announcer and so it uploads to people outside of the private loop...so when you think you've uploaded your fair share to the private peeps, in reality, you're nowhere near your quota.

Personally, I use ABC...a very simple torrent client, doesn't need port forwarding or any of that, and just does its job.

Thats why I stay away from torrents with private trackers.

However i'll look into the ABC. I remember using it before but i cant remember why i stopped.

no love for utorrent awa lol?

small, efficient, yet full featured and  very capable. ( case in point, it stole my head when i found out that i could schedule utorrent not to use as much bandwidth between the hours i like to listen to net radio and fall asleep, but spring back to full usage after that)

bitcomet used to be the real flick, but i think around .56 it started to be a bit too buggy for my liking, and a lot of trackers banned bitcomet clients a whle aback cuz of that decentralized option ( though you can disable it, i think)

i never had to mess with port forwarding to get utorrent to work tho...   does this mean that it does it transparently?

Not really, download speed is limited by actual bandwidth (obviously)
