Microsoft has finally made a step in the right direction with IE7 on Vista.  I've been using it for a few days now and it seems to be ROCK solid.  Everything loads up real quick, with no glitching whatsoever.
Flash animations are spot on, pics loadin up real quick and nice, the interface now has a slicker look to it.  Very uncomplicated.

Even though Maxthon is still light years ahead in terms of features, I actually like this IE7.
Actually I made this post on Vista, and yes, thats Bitmeter running in the corner (surprise, surprise).

Ok here are my first impressions of IE7:

1. Aesthetics
Better looking than IE6, but Opera still strikes me as the most aesthetic of the browsers I use. It has 'crystal' like buttons and most of the menus are disabled by default. So no File/Edit/etc normally, however they easy enough to navigate to and enable. I do wish more drag and drop functionality was built in with regards to rearranging the buttons tha ARE on by default. But that doesn't seem to be the case. IE7 still has LOTS to learn from the likes of Maxthon in this respect.

2. Functionality
More functional then IE6 (this is a no brainer). However they simply seem to have finally caught up with other browser capabilties (RSS feeds, tabs, etc). I find tab browsing options are very limited and a little cumbersome to get to. I like the all tabs view option (very similar to the window view in Aero or Aqua). The RSS feed support is still limited as well as it does NOT support DTD type RSS feeds. So quite a few of my fav pages aren't supported. Again Maxthon (which coincidentally will use whatever IE engine is present) does support all feeds. (Yeah I know I sounding like I plugging Maxthon... I guess I am!!) Oh I would have liked to have seen programmable Mouse gestures (which are present in Opera and Maxthon)
See thumbnail

3. Speed
IE7 seems slower than IE6. However with the added visuals I suppose thats to be expected. Also things like autophish scans add to load times. It is comparable so far to firefox in loads times on broadband connections, however firefox always seemed faster on slow (like dial up) links. I will perhaps verify this later on. It is definitely slower than Maxthon, which coincidentally should be using the IE7 engine...

4. Resource usage
IE7 is a RESOURCE HOG. I have simultanesously opened 3 browsers (IE7, Maxthon, Firefox) with the same sites and the same pages loaded. Once settled and all uploaded I have taken a screen capture of the memory usage showing what each browser utlitizes. IE7 by far is the most memory hungry, followed by firefox and Maxthon WAY down at a mere 25% of the prior 2. I have attached a thumbnail showing the comparison, to ensure that Maxthon was NOT adding to IE7's load I opened Maxthon last and did not see any increase in the memory usage of IE7. Maxthon did manage to get up to 24MB or so, but never as high as 30-40 as seen in IE7 and even Firefox.

5. Stability
Much to my pleasent surprise, I have not crashed even once YET (W1nTry keeps fingers crossed) and that is a GOOD thing. However to be fair I have only been using it for the past 2 hrs or so. I have sucessfully crashed Opera, Maxthn, Firefox, IE6, Netscape in the past or recent past (save netscape which I havent used in years) so I expect to see some spontaneous restarts of IE7 in the future, but should I be proven wrong, I will simply remain pleasently surprised.

Thats my first take, should things go awry in the near or even distant future, look for another review.

Works great imo...love the new features and the new look. Pretty damn stable, not that I ever had a problem with IE6 before it. I laugh at ye who has IE crash on them...hah! :P

Just so you know...I'm one of those techies who never shifted browsers and always used the vanilla IE that was built-in...not because I'm an MS whore or anything like that...I just never saw the need to shift. People argue bout security this and that...bleh...never had any probs before and don't see any reason that I will anytime soon. I know how to keep my eyes open, what to look out for, and where not to go...IE just plain works for me, and that's all I need...a browser that renders pages. In fact, I would go out of my way to use IE on a system that has Firefox or some other browser just to irritate the owner :P

Are you using the final version W1n? When I check the version, the PID shows as %ProductIDcode% and the update version shows as 0. This is with the final version. What do you see?

Lol @ insulted. Your product ID shows up normally as an actual string of numbers, however mine shows up very differently, perhaps because i'm running an "aquired" version of Windows. It looks like this...

I, personally, have not used either of the new browsers much....i go let them sort out any lil bugs first...
