no mail client  in the install from what i saw, and i don't think outlook express is gettin an update any time soon.

tha's a good question (about java)

seeing that ms' jvm is 4 years out of date

Quote
The MSJVM will reach its end of life on December 31, 2007. Customers are encouraged to take proactive measures to stay informed about obsolete software and move away from the MSJVM in a timely fashion. The MSJVM is no longer available for distribution from Microsoft and there will be no enhancements to the MSJVM. Microsoft products and SKUs currently including the MSJVM will continue to be retired or replaced by versions not containing the MSJVM on a schedule to be announced.

didnt get chance to really play around with it ( ie) before i left , tho..  i'll have to assume it uses the machine's existing jvm ( sun 1.5) but cah say for certain right now..

first opinion: looks cheesy..

aight: postin from it now..   uses sun's jvm , and on second look.. it not tht bad...but still prefer opera and ff

FIAH fe IE7 just try the Maxthon browser: MAXTHON, it supports RSS feeds, it has tab browsing even thought it runs on the IE or gecko engines, it has a gazillion plug/add-ins and its fast. It also has the search bar like firefox with google, ask jeeves, etc. Check it out, it's worth a try as opposed to a bug ridden beta.

nah i disagree, wintry...

just cuz is IE doesn't mean it shouldnt be given a try...

(except on a production machine..it's still beta..unless yuh feelin squirelly.lol)

in all fairness, it doesn't have any killer features that will draw anyone away from FF in droves, but i wouldnt say don't use IE jus cuz is IE

even the mighty firefox has its share of bugs....plenty of memory leak issues in 1.0 -1.5 .. 1.5 in particular used to crawl like molasses on my machine when i open in excess of 15 pics, and caused me to switch back to opera .. (resolved in 1.5.0.1)
... one of the troublemakers was actually called a 'feature' by one of the developers.. which is the same excuse used by MS coders from tme to time..

Well technically the post I made eh dissing IE as Maxthon uses the IE Engine... but man take a try of the maxthon browser, I using it all now, I am sure IE7 will be similar to this browser albeit a lil prettier. Besides, isn't IE7 going to be a Vista first if not exclusive thing?

BusinessWeek is reporting that Microsoft's next release of Internet Explorer, version 7, will not be integrated into Windows. Breaking nearly ten years of tradition, Internet Explorer was always very tightly integrated into Windows, allowing users to do such things as launch a website directly from any Windows Explorer window, or save a live web page as the desktop wallpaper.

Security analysts have been telling Microsoft for a while now though, that doing so would cause significant security problems for Windows. Indeed this has been the case. Windows itself has been under much scrutiny over recent years by the security industry as well as the hacking and virus communities. Exploits that were found to exist in current versions of Internet Explorer, were used to attack the core operating system because of the tight integration.

Microsoft itself had claimed that Windows XP is its most secure OS, and while it may be true in some respects, the claim sparked an onslaught of attacks from all sorts of malicious software. Despite ongoing security updates by Microsoft, analysts believe that removing Internet Explorer from the core of Windows will improve the overall security of the OS more so than many of its small patches combined. Despite the move to improve OS security by Microsoft, Internet Explorer will still ship with Windows Vista.

somewhat old news, but still relevant..

also, i read elsewhere that it was the OS integrated with IE, not IE with the OS  ( i.e. the OS used IE's rendering engine, 'Trident' to  do things within the OS )

The OS was integrated with IE, not into. There's a big difference...by saying with IE, it means that the OS pulled on pieces from IE to do some of its functions. As disciple pointed out, the OS used the Trident rendering engine for things such as Windows Explorer, Active Desktop etc.

well, from what i remember of the comment ( somewhere on OSnews)..   Windows just uses the IE rendering engine to do a few tasks, like render your background as a webpage ( if you want ) , connect to the update server, and a few other insignificant things
as opposed to IE  being built into the kernel and sharing key system files ( which it wasnt)

which is why nlite, and a couple other apps, could create a installation disk  for you ( I only tested it with XP) totally without IE

they just made up that 'tight integration' crappola to have a toehold over netscape ( at the time, the #1 browser).
why install another browser, when u have one hear already? ( the exploit ****  didn't hit the fan yet..)

now see czar response, as i try to post this...  he hits the nail on the head with his version

Windows RSS Platform & Internet Explorer 7
« Reply #13 on: April 11, 2006, 09:32:49 AM »
below is an informative email message i usually get from a tech news letter
but i have no idea what rss is neone cares to explain?

Internet Behavior Changes with Windows RSS Platform

One of the most significant changes to Internet behavior is going to be ushered in by the Windows RSS Platform. It is due to appear on the scene later on this year embedded within Internet Explorer 7 and Windows Vista.

This will make RSS as common place as HTML pages. A user will soon be using both protocols to obtain information and, most likely, will not know or even care that there is a difference.

The Windows RSS Platform exposes feed and list date to all Windows applications via a common API. It will manage enclosure downloads meaning that Podcasting will become common place. It will also provide access to a Common Feed List where users will be able to update any application’s feed subscription list without having to do so manually within each app. A centralized list of feeds is maintained from IE 7 with subscriptions automatically added to other applications.

It is easy to predict all sorts of automatic download functions that will take advantage of this new platform. Virtually anything that has regularly changing info could use the Platform. News is the obvious beneficiary but program updates, calendar functions and even more mundane things like product price lists could take advantage of this “push-like” technology.

The Windows RSS Platform will download fresh content in the background on a regular schedule – and even cache it. It will be possible to build apps accessing the locally stored feed folder, feed, item and enclosure data exposed by the Platform.

All-in-all, one of the most important changes in the way users will obtain information over the Internet.
