TSTT & Digicel finally interconnect
« on: April 03, 2006, 08:28:17 AM »
Well after many months of twisting, turning and excuse making, TSTt finally interconnect with Digicel...But not without a price...Calls recieved on a TSTT phone from a Digicel handset results in the TSTT customer having to pay. WTF is up with that???

well this is good news indeed. (the interconnect part)

keep us posted.

If all goes well, we could set up some mass graves for the old TSTT hand sets. lol

Make people pay for receiving calls from Digicel phones?? If Digicel service quality is anywhere near that of TSTT, I will ditch TSTT just for that piece ah madness they doing.

ahm... as far as i heard, it's the same with digicel as well  ( when they officially launch)

if you gettin a call from another network, you have to pay.....

( though i heard calls within the network supposedly free)

best you have two fones (which is what a lot of people up the islands do)

and the fones will be locked as well ( is no scene to unlock tho, but officially, you will be breaking the rules of your terms of service)  standard procedure with phone companies the world over

yeh, as i said, standard procedure to lock the phones..but is no scene to unlock..

in another of the threads on the forum, there is a link to a site to unlock nokias.. and you can download a code generator
( i unlocked my tmobile UK cell over the net, for free )

other than that, is a 50, and they unlock you in town...

with regards to my earlier comment on free inter-network calls for digicel customers, i spoke to a padna who has a digicel fone, and he says that is only temporary, till they officially release the billing structure

and to receive other network calls, WILL  be free ( also checked on the other digicel sites, and they have it as free as well)
so my bad on that  :-) , got confused with something else ( free roamin in the caribbean, i.e. regular call price for same network )

from what muh padna said, stuff free for now, cuz they haven't released the billing structure ( even internally, from what he said, it has not been finalised)
might be launched friday, i dunno...thas wah he told me

tstt drop a ace in the papers, droppin the rate to .50 cents per minute after 3 minutes, for all users.. post and prepaid.. anytime..

so that would probably cause them to revise their rates again..

but i doubt stuff like WAP will remain free; remember it's a cost to them, seeing that they have to purchase the bandwith for the download THEN transmit it to you

if you look at digicel's other websites, they give you the pricing structure for the GPRS service ( how much per megabyte, per tier), and the rates they offer generally around the caribbean..   i doh think it will be radically different here..

there, you can also get an idea of the prices of the phones they offer...  yes some fones will be given away for free initially, and some postpaid handsets will remain free( cuz their money assured by the fact you have a contract, and a minimal bill of x amount to pay , for two years)  but these will be mid and entry level handsets for the most part. remember also, that the phones are a cost to them..  check out how much it is to purchase a SIM-free phone ( not a re-branded prepaid..)   the phone company subsides the price of the phone....( helped by the fact that they would buy certain models in bulk directly from the manufacturer)

the market is too small to be givin away razrs an other high end phones... cingular, orange, tmobile etc, those foreign companies on tv could afford to do that, but you have to remember, they dealin in the MILLIONS of customers ....

Here this, a person I work with highlighted something about TSTT that I was at first skeptical about, but now can say I believe to be true. He said that he heard through the grape vine from TSTT that they were boosting the battery power at the cell sites to give the 'appearanace' of better signal from our oh so great bmobile service provider. However that is just a smoke and mirrors ploy as although you see a full 5 bars reception, when you actually make the call your little mobile can't output that kinda power and you get a Crappy signal although you seem to be getter 5 bars FROM TSTT. I witnessed this myself repeatedly by a good friend of mine. Whilst just idle my cell has FULL reception, however from the second i make a call OR receive one... INSTANTLY i drop to 1-2 bars TOPS. And this was IN sando a bloody CITY? yuh would think coverage would be better but no... all BS from TSTT. I can also verify that Digicel indeed has the superior coverage as another colleague told me whilst in Palo Seco all the cells on bmobile had to NaCl (Salt to those that didn't do chem or jus doh rem). Whilst the 1 Digicel phone there was merrily yapping along. Just thought i'd share that with you, I am sure other ppl will be able to coroborate my story on the 'appearence' of a better signal with the SAME SUCKY performance. How unfortunate TSTT screwing them royally for interconnection rates and that holding them back... I say give it time as ppl will realize that TSTT is just not up to scratch.
