Windows xp boot screen?
« on: January 19, 2006, 11:20:56 AM »
Anyone changed theirs and to what?

I found a program called style xp to do the changing and a site called themexp with hundreds and hundreds of visuals for xp. Everything else changes just fine, the bootscreen though i figure I have to work on.... (during boot it asks me to select os, winxp or winxp (bootscreen) so I figure I have to open the file manually and tweak it.

I used to use Style XP, didn't have too many probs with it. I like alot of the themes... I had a bad habit of making meh machine look like Mac OS X  I even had a docking application so I would have the docking bay like on an Apple  LOL... but I just too lazy to reinstall all those things now...

for real eh..lol.. ever since i used a mac years ago, i been rockin my taskbar on top.. and runnin aqua-like themes in stylexp

they say that on top makes more ergonomic sense, since all the other application functions are there.. but if MS had put it there by default in 95, then it woulda look even  more like blatant plagiarism of Mac OS than it already was...
so they put it at the bottom, and made it moveable so you could put it where you want...

back to topic..
nah i used to rock stylexp hard as well, with objectbar (?); had a couple problems, but nothing with my homepage assignment ( then again, my homepage is always blank)

but nothing to make me call it d devil..lol. havent used it in a while, so i cah say how it behaves now..

I figure I just have to go in to the ini and manually remove the line that references the "non-bootscreened" windows, just dont know if it's worth it.

I tried that bootscreen change within style XP and started getting a lot of problems when windows booted up.  Eventually I had to reinstall XP.  Good thing I made a restore disc.

The bootscreen is actually a small program itself.  I suggest leaving it alone.  There's a reason there aren't many programs that give you the option to change this.  It just too buggy.

I never had any problems with Style Xp either and strangely enough I did make my pc look like Mac OSX.  ^_^

I also used "Aqua Doc" and "Moby Doc" to imitate the docing stations and it was real cool. You can edit the ini file with no problems but keep a backup on another drive just to be safe.

I once liked the mac themes so much that I even installed OS 8.5 on my machine but now I work on Macs whole day in the office and I miss my PC when I am not home so I do try to make it look like anything else.

BTW if you want to add text to speach to your PC like the Mac has I recommend "Dragon Naturally Speaking" it even allows you to convert speach to text instead of typing.

Arcman, there are a good few sites on how to edit it manually, but I doh trust my typing enough to figure I wouldnt make a mistakke. I remember enough pulling out of hair while programming in basic  because of a little schopid mistake.

Aids, I have Dragon, and opera says it will do speech commands, but ah dont gots no microphone. Go figure. LOL
