Nvidia 7800GTX 512 (warning to dial up users)
« on: November 16, 2005, 11:44:20 AM »
All I have to say is.... GG......read!:
NVIDIA IS KING

Now for some porn... well 'geek' porn anys... things that'll make even the most hardened OCer wet, enjoy.

Now for some benchies:

This shows single GTX 512 and a whole other range of cards

SLI and stuff... seems alot CPU limited... even with a FX-57... we need FX-60 NOW!!! Oh btw the following if u look closely u see 4x-8x that means they set it to 4xAA and 8xAN

Some game action

Well now to see X1800XT in crossfire to compare...

The 7800 GTX 512 has definitely kicked ass and taken prisoners...ATI is said to be preping a "PE" version of the X1800XT or XL or whichever is their highest end card...to compete with this beast.

Yeah but as we all know PE translates to Pretty Elusive as there will only be VERY few you can get your hands on and even more so the price would prolly be thru the roof. But what I want to know is when Nvidia shrink to 90nm... imagine if right now they getting up to 550MHz core... on 90nm they might get up to 600 or 650 just like ATI's XTs... imagine a 7800Ultra witt 650 Core and 2GHz memory...that would OMFG pwnz all.

Nvidia already producing 90nm chips ( 6100 , 6150 integ) ,  they rolling out 90nm cards next year ,    somewhere around march we will see the 7600  , which will have 12-16 pixel pipelines  and a revision of the  7800 on 90nm  that may or may not have 32 pipes .
ATI is moving to 80nm process for a new batch of cards , a new mid range card  , RV560 and a new high end card , R580 .  The 90nm process for ati has been horribly inefficient yield wise , hopefully this new process will allow them to stack the required 24-32  pipes they need to compete with Nvidia .
Also even though the X1600 has a respectable 12 pipelines ( for a mid range  card) and a high 590mhz clock   it gets utterly raped from  a 6800 , X800xl or even a 6600gt because the yields only allowed 4 Texture Memory Units on the core ,   normally cards come with as many TMU's as pixel pipelines... this is a serious bottleneck keeping it back .

Looks like 3DMark2005 approacing the kinda scores 3DMark2001SE hit with the dawn of the 68xx and X8xx take a read:
Quote
Gainward breaks 3Dmark 05 world record

18614 with two Gainward 7800 GTX 512 cards in SLI

By Fuad Abazovic: Tuesday 29 November 2005, 11:39
GAINWARD managed to get the world's top 3Dmark05 score. With help from a chap called Kinc, it managed to get the top score. The chap was using an AMD FX 57 CPU and managed to clock it to astonishing 3928 MHz in overclockers' favorite DFI LAN party Nforce 4 SLI motherboard.

He used two of just released Gainward PowerPack Ultra/3550PCX (7800GTX 512MB) Graphics cards in SLI. The boards were overclocked to 779 MHz core and 2052 MHz memory and the chap managed to get the highest 3Dmark05 score ever.

You can check how those guys got to this score but it's not something that you can run for 24/7 but it sure is something that you can run to get the top 3Dmark05 score. Pictures are here but you can find the official scores at Futuremark'sORB site. And yes, those guys use to be called mad onion.
