From a friend of mine on my last review site. He went to the comicon convention where THE ROCK was there promoting the movie. They had the first 10 minutes of the movie showing and some extra parts. They say it has 10 minutes througout the movie with FPS action.

I just finished watching Doom the movie and I must say that it was good.

From the getgo the movie had 2 things going for it:
       1) It is based on a hit videogame.
       2) The Rock is in it.

Personally I wasn't overly enthusiastic about seeing it for 2 reasons:
       1) It is based on a hit videogame.
       2) The Rock is in it.

History has shown that when a movie attempts to follow a videogame, especially a good one, that the results are less than spectacular so my hopes were not too high for this movie. The action was good although not too much was really original. The monsters looked just like they did in the first 6 Alien movies.

Thankfully they didn't opt to follow the exact storyline of the game and The Rock isn't actually the star of the show either but I don't want to spoil it for those of you who haven't seen it yet.

The FPS mode is one long action sequence coming close to the end of the film which comes close to representing the feeling of playing the game but personally I think they failed to capture the true frantic pace of the game. The monsters (with the exception of pinky) come at "you" too slowly and in some cases actually run away before being impaled with a barrage of bullets. The camera moves way too slow and it comes across like an amusement park ride.

Still, any movie with a BFG can't be all bad. The acting too was surprisingly good and the characters were believable. Overall it came close to the experience of watching the first Resident Evil movie.

I'll give it 7 out of 10 stars. Hope they do better in the sequal and I am looking out for some soul cube action.

P.S. If they want to make a blockbuster movie based on a game then why not do Silent Hill. That should make for a very interesting film to say the least and does anybody know when the Hitman movie is supposed to come out.

i give that movie 4/10

I never see such a ballz movie in my life. Well it second to RE, but then the second movie based on a game to RE was Tomb Raider...oh geed. I love mih DOOM games and i still couldnt appreciate this movie. 4 plusses this movie gets from me is from the space jump to Mars.....daz it. They miss everything with the BFG, a GREAT cast and good acting but some very LAME dialogue. Even as a fan of the game i couldnt appreciate this since it doesnt have anything to do with the game. Carmack came out and said before this was release ID had nothing to do with this movie. They sold the rights to Universal 8 years ago and get paper for it and daz dat. End of story. I give him right. He sold it before Q3 came out since Q3 was a gamble with no real single player game.

I didnt even like this movie to pass the time :( I was dissapointed.

Doom is still worth a look if you are a fan of action movies but if you can just rent it.

The Silent Hill movie should be great. Hopefully Halo should be good too.

Personally, even though I am a big MK fan I didn't really enjoy the second movie as much as the first with the ridiculous addition of the animalities. I know it in the game but still it kinda sucked to see it on screen. I don't have high expectations for the third movie either but hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised.

that movie was available two weeks ago from the usual sources i am surprized no one saw it  before.

it is not worth the admission fee in my opinion, the fps sequence  isnt as good as the actual game either. if you are a rock fan he gives a reasonable performance but the movie itself  sucks.

watch MK again. When it came out everyone was all "MORRRTALL KOMMMMBBBAATTTTTT" but now when you watch it the movie just kinda jokey. The best movie to be made the a game was RE. the second one was kinda lame, but the ending was mad, i hope Milla come back to whoop @ss again. But the thing about the second one that made it lame was the fact that Milla was all superhuman so i mean you KNOW she goin to cut @ss, no suspense like the first one.

They're making a Doom movie!!! Cool...Doom's a good game series...

Hey look, it's the trailer!!! Very nice....damn good actually...

Hey look, it's The Rock!!!!

......

And so, the skepticism is born.

I really do doubt the...acting expertise...of one who calls themselves something of a mineral nature. Although, you have to admit, The Rock has the macho factor down, which would be essential for a movie like Doom.

I really don't know if it's worth the effort of going to see...and a few people who I know say it was pure crap...but those trailers are too damn appealing to pass up...

On a side note, anyone know anything about Metroid Prime and Halo movies in the making? I'm not sure...
Time is sometimes a cruel thing,
but the present is made by that cruelty.

Well this was nice. What i would like to see is a Halflife based movie only thing is how they would do Gordon Freeman, de man doh talk, but going with the images like the Concept and promotional art, that should make a really good movie but if yuh put ah chupid director more mess again....we still wait.,...... for a good game based movie......we still wait......

sometimes actors make mistakes in choosin parts...i saw dat the rock was given the heros role initially but after he read the script fully he said he wanted the anti hero's role instead...i tink dat frig up the whole film especially in lite of how dey advertise it...not dat it was a bad film at all but it jus a let dong somtimes to go in d cinema expectin sumtin and get sumtin totally different
finally karl urban get a lil starrin role den,he does be in all kinda film den
i find dey cuda use a lil more of d weapons from in d game too den

Doom wasn't so bad as most people claimed..my girlfriend and I actually enjoyed it....my favorite part (and perhaps the funniest part) was when the Rock was being dragged away like a dork, by the monsters and he says," I'm not supposed to die" I laughed my head off.

He should win an Oscar for such a performance! ^_^

i know the movie come an gone eh but this funny
Quote
“The plot consists primarily of a group of manly men with big guns poking around in the dark with banal dialogue. Every once in a while, they would have an encounter with a monster of some sort and proceed to blow the sh*t out of it.” –Zorknostrakon the Vengeful, Your Freakishly Enormous Head

[KULA: So just to recap, the plot is one of “manly men” with “big guns” poking around in the dark and … blowing the shit out of things. Sounds a little like gay porn – until you remember it stars a guy who calls himself “The Rock,” at which point it sounds A LOT like gay porn.]
