2d fighter maker

Anybody out there know of a stable program with witch to make a 2d fighter other than mugen. I have tried mugen and it is too buggy on win XP to make anything really enjoyable. Maybe I just have an old version. If there is a stable Win Xp version that you know of please let me know cause I want to get to work on making my own 2d fighter.

Thank but I tried those already and that is how I came across mugen. I was hoping there was another one in development but I don't trust what I see on P2P networks. I would do one from scratch but I'm not sure how feasable this would be or what language to use. I'm guessing using VB with standard .bmp's could work but I think that doing hit detection might be a bit of a pain. If anyone has any Ideas it would be appreciated. Thanks in advanced.

I agree with u with those on the p2p networks sometimes system crash is inevitable when u download, but are u going to make a flash game or something else?

I would prefer to make a stand alone game but if i can do it in flash that should be cool too. I have seen a pretty good flash fighter online called capoera fighter 3 so that is an option.
