Nintendo reveals Revolution controler
« on: September 16, 2005, 09:15:03 AM »
22 minute address by Shigsy here. I believe from the Nintendo press conference.

http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/09/15/news_6133335.html

Yuh tink is shit? Nintendo i feel just hand everyone they @ss with this controler. Its force sensitive. Meaning that you swing it like a baseball bat, hit it like a drum, use it like a musical instrument, use it like a MEDICAL instrument, move it up and down to move mario around

WAIT thats not all

with this addition you can use it in FPS games and even in fighters....YES fighters. thumbstick controls movement and your arm controls the motions of the arms. the demo shows a person playing a samurai game mimicing sword movements

on  a good note this is what vets have been waiting for. SOmething NEW and innovative. It will deffinitely pull people who dont play games into the industry meaning more money AND a bigger base for Nintendo sales. Nintendo isnt trying to WIN the competition so to speak but rather MAKE THEIR OWN. I getting the damn thing no matter what. Love the idea

Was just about to post about this...you beat me to it shiv...

All I can say is... WTF?? O_o

From the article:
Quote
As can be seen in the images released today, the controller features core elements along with some you wouldn't expect. A power button at the top left of the unit appears to let you power the Revolution console on or off. An old-school digital D pad rests just below the power button. A large GameCube-controller-style A button is prominently placed below the D pad. Its counterpart B button is located on the opposite side of the remote, like the Z button on the Nintendo 64 controller. Directly below the A button is a series of three buttons: select, home, and start. While it's easy to guess what they do, Nintendo reps offered no details on their exact function.

Below the select, home, and start buttons is another set of vertically aligned buttons labeled X and Y. On some of the prototype controllers we looked at, the X button had a small "B" next to it and the Y button had a small "A" next to it, indicating that the controller can be held sideways to approximate a classic NES controller. Directly beneath those buttons is a horizontal row of colored lights that indicate which controller slot the owner is using--1 to 4 are planned at the moment. The plan is for the controllers to include built-in rumble packs and to run off of batteries, à la the Wavebird for the GameCube.

Finally, the base of the controller features a unique plug that lets you make use of a wide variety of peripherals. One such peripheral is an analog stick attachment with two shoulder buttons labeled Z1 and Z2. Though it gives the combined items an odd, nunchaku-like appearance (which is actually Nintendo's tongue-in-cheek nickname for it), the add-on demonstrates the controller's versatility. The analog stick peripheral will come included with the Revolution hardware, with other attachments to follow in the future.

Geez now I have to go back to the Nintendo Revolution thread, check the time I posted the update for the controller and figure out if I edged Shivadee or the other way around  YEAH RIGHT... i'll just add here too... I think that remote contro.... I mean Rev controller looks difficult.. I mean can u imagine playing a side scrolling button mashing (street fighter or something so) game where u hold in 1 hand and pound the buttons the a frazzel with the other with the analog hanging and swaying all over the place? on the other hand.. if the analog has that gryo thingy and can tell orientatin in free space then you'd have a blast in flight sims and racing games... maybe even FPS is the orientatio controls where u looking.... hmm...

no dread. You can also use it like a regular controler and just hold the controls HOW YOU LIKE it. Meaning if you dont like how you holding the controler for an FPS you can change it, again for a fighter. You dont NEED to use the gyroscope feature if yuh dont want.

Umm... I wanna know if have A & B only again is enough buttons.. I mean simple is good and the NES did well with 2 buttons... but these days??? I suppose if u use the gryo with the remote... u can use the gamepad as 4 more buttons????

I cant say. I guess we need to see more of a demo. The samurai game was actually zelda. I was wondering how you gonna kick with a hand held controler so that answered that. You see the video yet?

Uh okay this thing is innovative for sure but it will probably take a while to adjust to the control. It  should prove fun no matter what my only gripe is the wireless thing, I never liked it. I mean you end up spending more money on batteries than games.

Intriguing. Scary. Very Scary. Scary as hell. But Interesting nonetheless.

EDIT: you're right shivadee. sorry. just watched the video. What intrigues me more than the funky controller is that the development process would be much less focused on expensive graphics, allowing independent developers to innovate as they like. That has me hopeful, and I'll be sold if it turns out that way. The controller itself is a sign just like the touch screen. This thing will be better for trying new type of games rather than fitting the mold of current genres. Like the touch screen and the DS. Capcom's making a freeking Lawyer game for the DS! I think weird, but cool stuff like that'll happen for the Revolution as well.

Yea saw the controler last night with it came out, but was too sleepy to post :(

But one thing I not loving about this, is that it looking to fragile....I mean, I am a person, who has anger problems, and I would usualy take it out in game, and sadly the controler also has to suffer. That thing looking as though it would break if you squeeze it too hard, and the cord connecting the remote and the joystick would break if you pull it.

One question though, which part of the controller is the "sensative part" ? Is it the remote control or the joystick part it self?

BTW, that would look so sweet in black to match the first couple pics of the rev...

Wow. That control's stylish, I'll give it that, but it's really, really weird.
I'd really like to see how that handles fighting games. Wringing a magic with that thing should prove to be.....interesting, to say the least. ;)

Peoples you firetrucking mad , it's arrogance like that which results in you never controlling a company ever. It's never about one person or a section of persons so if you don't like it BOO HOO! Dreamcast mainly failed because they rushed it out to stores too early and then PS2 came out right after , decapitating it.
Anyways the control looks cool but maybe just the fighting games will be a little odd. I'm sure they would bring out other controllers or you would be able to use the gamecube controller or something.
