A Web Server and domain

anyone here owns a web server and domain?... i want to know what is the procedure with like purchasing a domain and getting the ip address... i know that you purchase the doain online from one of the selleres, like godaddy.com but what about the ip address, how do you get that ?and what other things need to be in place?

You've got the domain bit sorted with godaddy. The next step is to get a host, basically somewhere to store your website's files. And that can range from your own PC to a true host with dedicated servers. There's tons of web hosts out there to choose from. Hell, even GoDaddy has a link called Hosting & Servers.

When you take out the hosting package, they'll provide you with the IP address. All you need to do is point the domain to their name servers (they'll have instructions on how). Once that's done, your site is good to go. Throw up your files and bring on the visitors.

also, carigamers has it's own web server and dns server. We can host any site short of pornography and hook you up with IP address, domain name, the works.

ok what i really looking to do is host my on site with my own server .. is the whole ip part that i puzzled about. i just trying to gather as much info about it, intersted in it right now.kinda lacking in knowledge of hosting my own site and setting up servers for hosting sites.

so i register a domain and now i want to host on my server  so how do i get the ip address, through the same site i registered the domain at or can i go through tstt?

if anyone could give me like a rundown of the procedure that would be a great help, i know if i am hosting the site i will need to set up a dns server but will i really need a primary and a secondary?

i'm a newb at this so i will have real questions.

Whoa there partner...you ent need all ah dat.

If you registered your domain already, then good, step 1 complete.
If you want to host it yourself, then you need a way to have the domain point to your server. For that, you will need either a static IP to point it to, or a dynamic DNS service like no-ip.com.
Since you've already opted for no-ip.com, check with them to see what needs to be done next to get your domain to hook up to your account. You may likely need to pay them a per month fee for that service.
