Was perusing the dell page looking at the XPS for no reason in particular...

Actually it was to see if i could get a cheap sli machine so i can gets me my non sli cards in sli  mode .


Anyways, clicked the tech specs button, noticed they said that the new xps bios will allow user overclockablity
I know we hate dell for a reason, buh like Micheal playin real hard ball, i believe this is a direct response to the beat down that alienware performs on them.

WIll do some more investigating and see if any other machines in their arsenal have overclockable bioseseses.

 nice... i still would never waste money on a dell, in the states where you get good and fast tech support maybe, but not in trinidad where you have to wait months for a replacement part to come in.

Indeed eh Trini, however this is a good move by them, I think its in response to alot of things for instance:
1. Apple's switch to Intel (Apple a considered a niche sure, but hey if ur' hardware is attractive enough who knows). Basically once Apple comes into play things could really mix up in the high end and dell could be looking to solidify itself in that top spot.
2. Alienware, Falcon Northwest, etc kick their proverbial @$$es in the highend market currently.
3. Lenova bought over IBM PC devision... they are the largest PC manufacturer in asia as i recall... dell as cheap as they are CANNOT compete with that.
Well the way I see it these are potential reasons for this change. But I have to ask, does that mean they not using those crappy made by dell mobos for those overclockable XPS systems right? cause if they are that supposed overclocking gonna lead to real RMAs

i would assume it means a switch in mobos.

ive so far only seen it on the xps, which is there high end system, but it would be great to get that option on the new 9200 and the 8400 and 8300 systems.

I was actually really lookin for a new bios update,for my 1337 d377 but got side tracked at the site of it.

Surprisingly dell doesnt seem to have sli machines, wats up with that.

I find it most peculiar that microsoft is not making a rant about apple coming to intel.

But i do know that microsoft is watching micheal real hard to see if he does opt to make that move to apple on his machines.

Would be such a major hit to microsoft is not funny.

Dell owning the american market is gonna be equivalent to lenova owning the asian market

LMAO @ dell not having an SLI rig, its cause even Dell realizes that SLI for Intel is like putting a RB-25DET in a march with its puny automatic tranny. In english, it means that nforce 4 was made for AMD and intel has to salt. Cause we all know AMD PWNZ in games!!! or it could just be dell TOO CHEAP to buy a proper SLI board :p

Dell is a waste down here can you imagine courts have XPS to sell hear the specs it will make you cuss. dell is for someone that want a computer for just havin a computer sake to do work etc. so they makin stuf overclockable not impressive they can burn burn burn burn.

though... this will lead to an increase in prices across the board on all overclockable dells , unless you want your prescH0T to catch fire , you need some seriously loud and expensive heat piped air cooling , or water, every dell i opened so far had cheapo aluminum cooling and poor case ventilation . Also you need much better psus than the 250-300 watts that dell likes to hand out to power a Prescott and/or a high end graphics card...  And higher quality motherboards to handle higher voltages , better RAM to cope with higher frequencies/voltages... prince increase in dell mc .

I agree with trini where he says that the PSs SUCK A@@ I agree, also as expected on any company made machine the system is highly impossible to mod / add ish too other than your basic RAM, Video, sound options. Dell is a cool system i like my system it cost me less for what i would get equivalent parts down here for... so freeek all yuh.

Although I looking to sell it and get dual 6600Gts with the SLI board virus was talking about... but thats beside the point...DELL fits WELL.......with your budget i say go buy it....although  the PS kinda sh!tty but......... thats beside the point...lol

Dread their PSU is NOT the only LAME component they use. The MOBO is substandard as well and ask anyone who repairs PC's they'll tell you that one of their major sources of income, comes from fixing Dells. Dell long ago (beige case) were excellent machines, however mass production has led to this cheap plastic, flimsy piece of $hit case and poor PSU and mobo (which by the way is enough to kill everything else in the case). Just food for thought. They can't be beat price wise (thats also a lie cause I know quite a few ppl down here who offer comparable/better PC's for the same price) generally cause of sheer volume. Imagine with world over sales, their net profit was what... 19 million or something so? thats to tell u how much that DON'T make on a singel box. Dells strategy is bulk, CHEAP< FAST< DIRTY. Killing small scale integrators everywhere. Men who support dell supporting their local market demise. Cause if you don't know let me teach you:
Dell came to Trini in the form of liscensed distributors via local vendors.
Once their client base was in full effect thru these local vendors, they then came in with Dell Direct to kill off said local vendors cause ask anyone who sells dell's the mark up is NON EXISTENT. Dell has landed major tenders with the GOVERNMENT, some even WITHOUT ANYONE ELSE TENDING FOR THE CONTRACT, u heard me right, the government just went straight to dell without anyone else having a chance to supply. So NOW u have dell supplying major contracts and earning millions of dollars off us with no local suppliers save maybe for support and/or repairs now and then.

So in summary the steps to sucessfully get into a market (save in China) is:
1. Use local distros to set up client base.
2. Bring in a direct online store (eliminating store front).
3. Kill off ur distros via dell direct
4. Bypass normal procedure with large contracts by offering upfront prices NOONE can match cause U ARE THE DISTRO of the SAME comp others would have used to get a good price.
5. Laugh at all the ignorant pplz that doh know better and buying ur sub standard product cause hey bottom line to trinis is cost, quality seems to be a lost ideal cause hey look at the government, crime, overall stand of living. It seems we go with whats cheapest and complain when it doh work. Starting to stray daz meh 2c.
Oh btw the things I mentioned here about government going straight to dell without any other company attempting to bid is true.

 I just did a comparison between a home built system and an XPS gen5..... even with faster components eg. A64 3500 or 3.4 ghz P4 , X800 XL a home built system is 200 US cheaper  and alot faster  than the basic XPS with 6800 , 512mb and 3.2ghz P4 for 1500 US .
   in conclusion : dell is a big waste of time , boycott them ! support local entreapreneurs who build good cheap rigs !

yeah, at us$90.00 for xp home it's the third most expensive component in that rig.

Next to the Processor and RIDICULOUSLY PRICED power supply.

For TT$485.00 we get cases that come with psu's good enough to run an athlon 64 3000+ and a 6600GT. (450 watt with 18amps on the 12v rail)

Why on earth should a decent 500 watt psu cost US$90+ which is gonna be married with an Antec case for US$69.00??

Damn.

That is just too much.

For an uber elite SLI 7800 GTX rig, such a setup is well justified (since you would have won lotto to be able to afford it in the first place)

but for the average gamer...OUCH!! Expensive.

   The dell 5100 , 9100 and XPS look well ventilated enough for a pressh0t , but they'r not going to be overclockable by much unless dell includes fans that send people deaf after an hour of exposure , or expensive water cooling ... i'm sure dell will advertise overclockability on their rigs but make people pay hundreds of US  more for overclockable hardware and warranty than the list price and currant price of any dell PC .
  Face it ,  dell is a money grubbing organisation like any other , but at least  greedy companies like Falcon Northwest and Alienware give you top of the line quality parts and don't cut corners , or suspend your warranty when you upgrade  the machine yourself ! Dell cut so many corners that many of their PCs don't have a restart button , so that the company can save a few cents on each rig they sell .
