dual core athlon X2 4800
2GB DDR600 with 2-2-2-2 timings
500 GB or more storage through SATA raid .
 2x Dual core 6800gt cards in SLI
 700-800 watt psu
  Sound blaster ZS whatever...
 something around that
   trust me, its not worth it to get the fastest specs unless you have paper to spare , stick with a medium end pc for almost half the price, you'll still get amazing  gaming performance for years to come, and you have enough money left over to UPGRADE ..... makes no sense buying the fastest GFX card or cpu now, cause in a year you will get something faster for half the price or less ! look a the 6600gt , same price as 9800 /9600  and yet alot faster . 
  Its best to get something upgradable and cheap eg. A64 3000 ,  geforce 6600gt PCI-e , 1gb DDr, 200gb sata system for 4000-5000tt  , and next year pop in a new graphics card that will be faster than a 6800 or 6600gt sli, and a new dual core cpu for cheap .

You can get it at that price if you have a working teleporter between Taiwan and Trinidad.

The specs put forward are pretty solid though as well as the recommendation to get a high performance rig that is upgradeable.

I have been impressed with the performance of the 6600GT, A64 3000+, 1GB RAM, 160GB ATA combination at our GL.

Pretty damn solid.

I won't recommend SATA just yet. Been hearing horror stories of guys getting bsods.

stick to IDE more stable

Strange... I have 2 Hitachi SATA 80GB drive working fine for quite some time now... maybe its just the manufacturer u chose? Myself personally, I hear WD real giving beans lately (in normal ATA TOO) so I avoid them like the plague. Seagate is doing well world over with some impressive growth and high revenues... however they are known to be Hot runners. Hitachi was formerly IBM (solid stuff), samsung is also aight. Maxtor is good $hit! dats my 2c on de HD situation

 SATA works great once you have a good controller , no Master / slave configs or stress like that , just make sure you have a floppy drive to install windows with  in order to give it the right drivers .
   I have a WD 200gb right now , hasn't failed in the past few months , works fine  , if it was my choice i would have gotten a seagate but i had no control over  Newegg giving me a hard drive instead of a 50 pack of DVD-Rs ...
