cdx2k1 RAM & Max CPU speed
« on: June 06, 2005, 02:06:10 PM »
Hi all.I'll post my scores here too.Right now I kinda under a rock compared to you fellas but say what. Here is my PQI Turbo Series DDR 500 clocked at DDR 600, 3-5-5-9, 3V, 2T.It's stable.I know the 2T hits AMD hard but i cant do squat with this RAM @ 1T.I also included my max stable CPU speed which is 2.6Ghz.My real max is 2.65 but i never tested it.When I get my watercooling in place, faster vid card (hopefully 6800GT) and more or faster RAM then i'll post some benchmarks. Can't run this CPU @ 2.6 currently because it pushes off too much heat.To hit 2.6 I had to put the PC infront an A/C! Hope allyuh like.

Thats not bad at all. However u do need to run lime Prime95 or at least SuperPI to determine if its absolutely stable. As I stands I can hit 2.65 thereabouts as well on my 90nm 3500+ however its far from stable for benches. So run some 3DMark, SuperPi and Prime95 and lewwe see the goodness of AMD for offering a low priced solution with high priced performance!!!

^^I ran prime for alittle more than 3 hours and memtest86 for about 6 (very good program for testing stability for RAM).I only got Super Pi a couple days ago. When I have the patience to hook up the PC to the AC i'll do it again.Don't worry>it'll be soon.haha>maybe even tonight. You know how to get stability W1ntry?

I don't really follow this question, however as far as my system goes, I have to drop the Freq on the mem and prolly increase core, chipset and AGP voltages to get it closer to stable. I can hit 2.7GHz with more of a push. A better cooler and ram wouldn't hurt though.

A man hit yuh some words of wisdom there man. Water and electronics doh mix too well just yet. However I think he relatively safe bush, once he doh do it for too long. He could prolly use some serious silica gel pads to keep it less damp if thats a problem.

plenty things shouldnt occur, but you keep doing it one of these times   eveyrthing will flutter and you go hear BEEEEEPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP and that will be all she wrote.  If you want you cna use Oil
If you get none contaminted vegetable oil you cna submerg your entire setup into it.

Remove the fans video card van heatsink north bridge fan an  assemble it into a plexy glass case, youll need to get  some type of specially made washer around  the video ports if you  want to have it like a normal mini case. then simply engulf the box  with the oil and boot up. youll get really good cooling from oil.

For those of you thinkin OMG BUSHMAN YOU MAD that go destroy the pc.  Oil does not conduct electricity, but it does conduct  heat VERYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY  well. u can even take it a step further and build a sorta  fridge around it to keep the oil  well under room temperature.  This is the best cooling  next to Phase Change cooling  Whcih  cost like 1000 to 3000 USD a setup

Well Bush I do agree with you on Oil not conducting... at least certain oils (I mean they do use them to cool transformers) but umm veg oil... where and what research did u do to determine that as a suitable alternative? Anyways man, yeah Water cooling is good enough....Bush... well ur name is bushman...oil...LMAO

Yes Oil cooking oil will work well. and the oil solution will work  alot better and cheaper than the Water Cooling

@ bushman - std cooking oil will not work better than water using similiar level of parts. It will be hell to take the heat away from the oil.

Not to mention oil will void all warranty.

Cheaper? H20 cooling isnt as expensive as people make it out to be. You can build your own h20 setup. No need to buy expensive premade kits. H20 only expensive if you want PREMIUM stuff.

@ cdx - those memory timings are utterly digusting. Your far better off with tighter timings and lower FSB. BUT you can get best of both worlds ...run asynchronous. Those timings you could probably get away on an Intel but not AMD.

http://www17.tomshardware.com/howto/20050609/index.html  <<<  home made water cooling .

true water cooling isn't that expensive , you can get a system for 60 Us , though it won't be any better than an expensive copper heatpipe air cooling setup , and it isn't dangerous once you know what your doing .

>> u need to run prime for 24 hours  to be verified as stable in benchmarking, some cpu are stable 23 hours and 30 minutes and just hard crash.

#1 Stability is all relative. A system might not pass the so called "cpu stressors" for more than a few hours yet may never have a stability related crash in normal usage. It all depends on what your using the system for. That said its a good starting point.

#2 Prime isn't perfect. Passing Prime for x hrs doesn't mean 100% stable nor vice versa.

#3 The reason why 24hrs is picked...is because it represents a full day cycle. It is thought that only a full day testing is enough to test all possible normal environment variations. Which of course is also imperfect since there are more environmental  (and other) variables to consider. A single unusually hot or cold day can skew results for example.

>> 2t timing is about 3% difference so this nonesence people come with amd gets hit hard is false

If your benching mem bw intensive appz then it matters more than the "3%". If not, then it can impact everything from 0% to that "3%".

The point is, these values only really matters if your trying to push the limits. Which is what the people in here are trying to do no?
Therefore that "3%" does matter in this context. Otherwise you not get high performance ram in the first place. Most hardware upgrades are improvements (if at all) in small percentages like this. So its almost as important as say a cpu or motherboard upgrade in that context no?

"Performance is what makes MHz useful" (tm) Synth.

In general more agressive timings will net you greater overal performance vs raw Mhz.

By itself the % may not seem much, but when part of the sum of performance tweaks...it adds up and matters.

indeed those timings make my insides cry.

If you had a p4 then you could get way with it but....

anyways

oil is well....coool
but if your a noob, dont go oiling your system its, well, kinda messy.

Water is a nice option so stick with it if your COMFORTABLE with it.

May wanna look into liquid metal cooling.
