This Saturday May 28th, there will be a Yu-Gi-Oh! tournament at the La Joya Complex in St. Joseph, hosted by the Fanta-Sci corporation. It is going to be a Traditional format tournament, which means no holds barred on what cards you can use.

Now, I'll be a judge at this competition, so I'm not going to compete, but I will be challenging a few of you guys to battle before and after the tournament. Look out for me....^_^

Now, I haven't gotten all of the details yet, but I will update you guys tomorrow.
Just get your decks ready, because I'm sure several of you out there are itching to compete.
Here is what I -DO- know:

DATE: Saturday, May 28th.
TIME: 1:00PM
VENUE: La Joya Complex, St. Joseph.
ADMISSION: $20
PRIZES: A Booster Package consisting of Booster Packs, Foil Cards and a Card Grab Bag.

So, guys, it looks like you'll have to dust off that Chaos Emperor Dragon, and stop using that Raigeki as a coaster, because this weekend, it's time to DUEL!!

Hmmm...don't think I'd be playing, but I may show up there. Any extra judges needed? :)

I will see if i can bring a Traditional version of my primary Advanced deck, it'll take a bit to rework it though :S.

hahahahah, Another opportunity for Chaos legeon to show our true strenght, and have some fun doing it. We'll be there to take those boosters hometo the darkness that is known as chaos. Sorry, i didn't mean to scare off any other competitors.

I'm afraid not.
Today, I was supposed to give the guys at Fanta-Sci a call to confirm all of the details.
Unfortunately, I was unaware that today was Corpus Christi, and, seeing as how I only had Fanta-Sci's business number on hand, I was unable to call and finalise everything. My sincerest apologies, folks.

Hopefully, you should get all of the details by tomorrow, please God. (That is, if the fact that I have to go up to sign on for my Bachelor's Degree doesn't get in my way or train of thought in doing so...)

Dang Nabit!  That's not enough notice for me to make it.  I need two weeks notice to make alternative arrangements for Saturdays (and some Sundays).
All the best to those competing.  I'm asuming that it's not gonna be a sanctioned tourney?

Ent, Computerman?
I told them I needed more notice than a few days to get people into this tournament.
Ah, well.

And...no. it's not Upperdeck sanctioned.
Then again, 99.9% of tournaments in Trinidad hardly were, anyway. :)

1. Read the post, justin. It's there in BIG, BOLD LETTERS.
If you don't know where that complex is, it's the pinkish building right opposite the green and white Muslim school along the EMR in St. Joseph.

2. 16 people have already signed on, and, as you can see, a few more are interested. So, fear not, people will be coming.

Sorry, justin.
I had to leave to get ready for the tournament when you posted that.
But, to answer your question, yes it was, and all you had to do was come and ask, if you knew where La Joya was. A bit too late for that, though, now that the tournament's over.

Now, if there was one thing that needed to be said about this tournament, is that it was the day of the underdog. No kidding. Some of Trinidad's finest duelists, such as Gemman and SPK, were knocked out before the semi-finals, while others who were yet to make a wave on the tournament scene came out in full force and made it to the top.

A couple of things, though, surprised me at this tournament.
Something that took me by surprise the most was the absence of Chaos Legion from this event.
I was trying to make contact with Balki before the tournament to find out what was going on, but I could not get through. The arima duelists came out in full force, though, with Cliff, Derrick, Gemman and Joseph representing. A couple other well knowns such as David Smith (some of you know him as the 'other ' Odion) also showed up.

The tournament was a simple elimination...once you lose, you're out.
Everything, I must say, went pretty smoothly.

Some SERIOUS upsets took place in the first round, and it was surely memorable.

The first upset came when Derrick, known for his low key, non-conventional approach towards dueling, took everyone by shock when he defeated  hometown favorite Gemman in the first round. The crowd, while stunned by this development, roared in applause for Derrick, who took his victory as he always does....in calm stride.

The second came when Joseph pulled the infinite LP strategy against David Smith using Gearfried/Elma/Spell Absorption. Things certainly looked bleak, but David refused to give up, despite the fact that Joseph's LP were now 'a zillion'. It was a very good thing that he didn't, when he pulled a deck out strategy later on by using Yata to stop Joseph from drawing, and Don Zaloog to crop his deck to nothing. As David would say later on, it looked like even infinite LP don't necessarily mean victory all of the time. A MOST impressive play, if ever I saw one.

The tournament then evolved into the second round, which went by pretty smoothly.
SPK, who made his way to the next round, was knocked out by an impressive Gearfried/Blast With Chain strategy by Sergio. Cliff went on to dominate, often progressing with an overkill situation.

The Semi-finals were soon under way, with Cliff and David Smith being cheered on as 'the' people to win. David, however, would lose in a surprising upset. Cliff, however, went on to the finals.

The best way to describe the finals was certainly tense. Cliff has one set of devious Spells in his hand. Delinquent Duo, Heavy Storm, Monster Reborn, and Pot of Greed. The problem? A face-up Imperial Order was standing between him and using those cards. It seemed that, for a while, Imperial would just shut down Cliff. However, constantly paying for Imperial Order would prove to be his opponent's downfall, as his LP dropped to 900 from over-abuse. Cliff then pulled the best card for the situation- a JINZO. Painful Choice soon followed, and then Pot of Greed, Chaos Emperor Dragon, and boom. Cliff wins, and earns his place as the 1st ever Fanta-Sci Yu-Gi-Oh! champion.

Congratulations go out to all who participated, especially Cliff, who, despite his astute cockiness, earned his day in the sun. Well done, everybody.

Certainly, Fanta-Sci will be hosting another tournament, and one in which yours truly will be a competitor, instead of a judge. Make no bones about it, NEO will return and truly show what he's made of. Until then, good fight, good night and see you guys then.

whoa!

superb tourney report N.E.O! As always.

one gripe, WHERE DE PIX!!!!

We don't have a tourney cam for no reason. If you guys don't got a digicam, harass a member of the tournament team to get it covered.

Wish I could have been there, had to work down chaguaramas.

(note to self....must win lotto.)

Kudos to all involved.

Thank you NEO for providing us with another excellent report.  I'm sorry I couldn't be there, had to prep the car for Drags (JK).
Congrats to Cliff and all the others who competed.  If they are willing to get their tourneys sanctioned, run advanced and give more notice I will try to organise my regular crew for the tourneys.

mcmcmcmcmc!!!

That was the reason as to why I don't like Traditional tournaments anymore...

Sergio woulda got his arse roasted if it wasn't for Imperial Order. Pot, Graceful, Limiter x2, CED, BLS in hand(with 4 light and 0 dark monsters in the GY)...if it wasn't for that, he was goin to collect a solid 20000+ attack...

But anyway, it was pretty good all the same.

At least it showed that an almost completely advanced deck can run and give good competiton in a Traditional tournament :).

I was very dissapointed. This entire thread was removed from the site on saturday morning, and i spent the entire morning asking Neo what was going on with the tournament, and got no response, hence i thought that it had been cancelled. CL even went down chagaunas looking for people to duel and trade with. I was even more dissapointed to here from fellow duelists in the mall after that people had been deliberately trying to keep me from finding out about the tournament so they would have a chance at winning. I never knew i was this good, but damn fellas. No one from gatt though, the entire town and chagaunas dueling groups were keeping the tournament on the down low from me and my clan, thas real plenty people. They were even  telling people that i said that i wasn't coming to encourage others to come. Sad, very sad. Anyway, a tournament victory with no CL members is an empty victory, and evryone knows it, cause to be deemed the best you have to play the best. So right now we have a La Joya and UWI champion that almost half of my clan can beat. We were also not informed at all about the UWI tournament for the record. What can i say, congrats to cliff. I personally applaud brent of Arima clan for his great championship sportsmanship. When he heard of the situation of not informing us, he refused to enter because he wants to play the best, and win against THEM. Simply put, because of this, La Joya and UWI will always have the same champion because we refuse to ever enter any tournament in those places from this day because of the treatment showed towards us. We WILL see you all at the tournament on the first saturday in July though and be warned, Legeonnairres are very angry so don't expect any friendly duels, and don't expect us to be on our usual patterns of friendship and great fun dueling. Just expect an all out assault and war, and lots of fatigue and embarrassment, on MOST duelists. In this one we're looking for no friends or nuetrals, we're just going to demonstrate what should have happened at La Joya and UWI, but with much aggression  towards most duelists. Expect no mutual repect from us, None at all. We will be winning both the traditional and the Advanced tournamnts on that day, so be PREPARED for the worst dueling day of your lives.
