Bungie, Microsoft part company

The Halo slips, according to leaked email

By Jesse Denzin-Weber: Tuesday, 02 October 2007, 10:49 PM

Falk AdSolution

THE RUMOUR MILL is spinning again after a Seattle Post-Intelligence reader posted an email received from a friend of a higher-up, stating that the creator of the massively popular Xbox series Halo, Bungie, has separated from Microsoft.

The email states Microsoft gets to keep all rights to the ‘Halo’ franchise and says the official announcement won’t be released until October 6th, so as to not impact the quarterly results.

Bungie was acquired by Microsoft in 2000, where it gained exclusive publishing and distribution rights to select Bungie-developed titles, including Halo. Microsoft has denied the split saying, “There’s been no such announcement. We continue to celebrate the tremendous success of the global phenomenon that is ‘Halo 3.’”

According to the email Microsoft was interfering with various aspects of Bungie’s business. It claims Voles were fiddling in everything Bungie did, from marketing to public relations. According to the email, Microsoft was also “stingy” with profits.

Whether the email is genuine or not remains to be seen.

Hmmmm, yes it would be interesting to see Bungie develop a game for the PS3, "Say ello to my lil fren CELL"..LOL

New Xbox 360 Arcade Console being released this month

http://www.gamingbits.com/content/view/2795/2/

looks like Microsoft is really trying to push the 360 giving away 5 Arcade titles with the Core.
Also HDMI and a wireless controller instead of wired. I hope this one includes FALCON! Hmmph

Yes, you MUST have a US address as an alternate.  In my case, I use my E-zone Miami address.

Microsoft confirms Bungie jump

Natural selection

By Paul Hales: Friday, 05 October 2007, 4:41 PM

MICROSOFT confessed today that Bungie had done a bunk.

We reported that Bungie and the Vole had fallen out. Now, Microsoft has spun the line that the relationship is to "evolve".

It spun: "Bungie Studios, developer of the Halo franchise, is to "embark on a path to become an independent company."

The Vole says it will retain an equity interest in Bungie and no doubt expect more from what it calls the “Halo intellectual property" which it claims it owns, "as well as other future properties developed by Bungie".

"While we are supporting Bungie’s desire to return to its independent roots, we will continue to invest in our ‘Halo’ entertainment property with Bungie and other partners, such as Peter Jackson, on a new interactive series set in the ‘Halo’ universe" said Shane Kim, corporate vice president of Microsoft Game Studios

A spokesBungie said the firm will continue to develop, "with our primary focus on Microsoft’s platforms."

"We greatly value our mutually prosperous relationship with our publisher, Microsoft Game Studios, and we look forward to continuing that affiliation through 'Halo' and beyond," he said. µ

Hey W1n I think at least one of the two 360's will be delivered today, no one was home yesterday apparently and UPS tried to deliver, so I will soon find out.

Halo 3 earned $300 million in a week
More punters than you can poke a stick at
By Nick Farrell: Friday, 05 October 2007, 7:44 AM

MICROSOFT has managed to flog $300 million worth of Halo 3 copies in its first week of sales.
The Xbox360 game is now officially the fastest-selling video game ever and managed to raise enough cash to knock spots of other forms of entertainment.
Vole must be patting itself on its furry back, because despite having a year of Xbox360s dying fairly often, the outfit has managed to flog some of the years top games including BioShock, Mass Effect and Project Gotham Racing 4.
According to xbox360achievements.org, more than 2.7 million gamers have played Halo 3 on Xbox Live in the first week which is about a third of the seven million Xbox Live members worldwide.
So far they have played 40 million hours of the game. The outside world has become a distant memory along with any dreams of a date with the opposite sex. µ

My my my.... even the box office would be proud of that figure
