I don't agree.

As w1ntry says, mainstream cards get the job done and done pretty good too.

a 7600 GT goes for $140.00 and it runs every game that is currently out decently.

You don't need the 7900 GT and it's heavy price tag.

Same will be true for the next generation of cards.

I made a long reply yesterday but the net went down so it was seemingly all for naught. Either way lemme highlight.

First off, alot of 'FACTS' about PC gaming disregard the sales of Online games such as WOW or those distributed by STEAM amoungst others. The fact that WOW Burning crusades is the 2nd highest selling game (in its launch) or all time, second to Halo 2 I think, speaks for itself. The fact that there are 7+ million active gamers that play just WOW speaks for itself (and thats not counting the MANY other online MMORPGs out there). So to say PC gaming is dying is BS, decline my @$$. We had that discussion on GATT already, WHERE SHIV when yuh need his input dread... oh wait... right lost in WOW...

Onto price etc. First off camrE I eh yuh son, yuh boy or anything to that effect so i'd rather NOT be reffered to in that manner. That aside use more up to date tech when yuh talk (man quoting 6 Series business and bawling sub 200) dude that is a sub 100USD card. Ppl don't buy PCs JUST to game (the majority), hence an upgrade will encorporate the ability to play a best game decently but doesn't have to be no damn toppa top as Baego rightfully said. Most ppl will go out, buy a Dell/HP/Alienware/etc and be fine. Then they will buy something like WOW (which btw will run well on EVEN a 6600GT) and be fine. This nonsense about needing the best of the best and always needing to upgrade is crap. Ask nyone on gatt who's bought a pre-built system and they'll tell you they pay for the WARRANTY. Joe average doesn't WANT to dig in his case and is willing to pay for the warranty. Plus when its done like man like crixxx, yuh change the video card, maybe add ram and yuh good for at least another year. My last rig lasted 2yrs in the same config and even now still will play all the current games at above 60FPS nicely.

Anyways we can agree to disagree so I laeve it at that. What we can all hope for is the convergence of PC-console gaming (which there alraedy have, I will post the game name when I remember, a padna in england told me about it... a football game I think) and hope to better gaming for ALL!!!

Console gaming just makes better financial sense to most people.

All the more reason why MORE cross-platform games should be made.
Those that can afford a 'bess' PC will buy/build one.

Poor choice of words, being able to 'afford a bess PC' and being willing to spend money constantly on the upgrading of a gaming PC as opposed to picking up a console are not the same thing. Like Vivman said, 'financial sense' makes the difference, I've been able to pay for the construction of a gaming PC for quite some time now, but i really don't think it's smart to make such an investment in a gaming PC at this point. I have a PC for browsing and word processing here at home already, so for me it makes more sense to invest in a console as opposed to a PC.

PS. just so everyone knows, I'm not insinuating in any way that PC gamers lack sense for investing in their machines, but rather that they will have a better understanding as to the value they place on their investments.

You misread my statement.  Nowhere did I state that having/upgrading a gaming PC and having a console was the same.  They are QUITE different.

Also, 'financial sense' means different things to different people.
There are those (like myself) who have absolutely no problem upgrading a gaming PC
every few months.  My version of a 'bess PC' will differ from everyone else.

What I alluded to in my statement is that if MORE cross-platform games are made, there are those that will stick with a PC because they know they will get the PC version, and there are those that may not be able with all the gaming-PC headache and stick with a console version.
In short, more players for more online matches, and a bigger online community for said game.

Is that clearer for you?

I believe this year the pc will surpass the standards set by the next generation consoles, although the potential of the 360 and ps3 is quite impressive, the technology available via the upgrade path for pc gamers simply will not be there for consoles.

This argurment for pc vs console is becoming something of a subjective arguement, according to preference, nobody should be tellin the other what they should prefer, and as far as pc gaming being dead, jus remember the pc went up against the launch of 3 consoles within the last year from the 360 to the wii to the ps3.

with the kind if gaming coverage expected for all the systems in the coming months it will be nice to see what 'preference' will come out victorious.

as for the death of pc gaming, check out this article

also a list of games slated for PC  release this year...

i love consoles, but somewhere along the line i think the notion of pc gaming dying got out of hand.

selective persepting seems to have been the reason the neanderthalls died out.

1) i never implied in anyway that "having/upgrading a gaming PC and having a console was the same" if you think i did please show me where, because i cannot see it, maybe i could clear it up directly if you point it out.

2) i have the term 'financial sense' in inverted commas for a reason, but seems like you neglected that part. My fault for the ambiguity, it's in inverted commas because i belive 'financial sense' differs from person to person.

if you read the Post Scriptum i had in my post you would have realised that there was no reason to counter my response, as we have both clearly said the same thing with one exception. i do not believe that being able to afford/build a gaming level PC equates to being willing to go about getting one. Ability and Willingness have never been one and the same.

Ha.
No need to TRY to be insulting now.  Thats the reason for these forums, sir, for us to discuss.
Lets agree to disagree then, and leave it at that.   -_-

Ok, back on topic now with some news for PC fans. IGN has reported from an interview with Epic's VP that Gears of War is coming to PC "eventually."

Quote
Gears of War a Lock for PC
Epic's VP calls it "inevitable."
by Hilary Goldstein

February 15, 2007 - In a recent interview with IGN sister site TeamXbox, Epic's Vice President, Mark Rein, gave thumbs up to rumors that Gears of War was headed to PC. Just don't expect it anytime soon.

Rein told TeamXbox that Epic would "eventually" bring Gears to PC. "I just don't know when," he said. "The big challenge is to make a game that was designed solely for the console…to take advantage of every last little corner of that console, to fill every little crack and run as many threads as we could and do as much to exploit the power of that machine, and make it run well on enough PCs to be worth releasing."

"It's inevitable," Rein said, "but it's just not there today."

More news today: Vista will be hooking up Xbox Live on May 8. If you have a Live account for 360, it will work on Vista as well. A little game called Halo 2 will be released on the same day with full cross-platform compatibility. More details:

My Xbox 360 Wireless controller has a left thumb stick that stopped working. It still moves but when you have to press it in (to use binoculars in Call of Duty 3 for example) it does not work. This would be ok if I had the controller for 4 years but I only had it for 4 months. I really hope this is an exception and not a normal thing. First party controllers should be better than this. Now, I am stuck in CoD 3 at the next to last level called The Mace. I have to use binoculars to signal air strikes and with this controller I cannot do it. Of course, I can change the controller configuration so that binoculars can be used with the B button but that moves crouch to the left thumb stick. So, I am stuck between a rock and a hard place.

You've been pounding away at that controller everyday since Viv, daiz how you manage to pass my gamerscore..LOL...Wear and tear as usual. I just bought a second controller, not because the first one stopped working, but because the rubber on the left thumb stick was getting smooth. I've had my 360 for more than a year now and the controller has seen it's share of wear and tear. But I don't think it's a widespread problem. Mine works just fine. But then again, I doh play everyday like you! LOL. Now I can catch up to your 8000+ score. I am playing Crackdown and getting achievements little by little. Then I'll beat away at MLB 2K7 and try to finish up the online achievements in NBA Homecourt. 8000 here I come! LOL  ^_^

Yeh, the 360 is probably the console I spent the most time with in the first few months than any other I have ever owned (being unemployed helped). I guess I am just disappointed that the controller would give up so early. I thought these things were supposed to last years (first party especially). I still have my PS2 controllers from 5 years back and they work fine; same with my Xbox and Gamecube. I guess I am just spoiled from good quality stuff. I just hope this doesn't happen when I buy another 360 controller (which I will probably do soon).

I've been sweating my 360 for some time, the controllers have suffered a few falls (onto solid floor) and still holding strong. I did suffer an Xbox 360 malfunction altogether, but as far as the remotes go, nope... prolly a defective remote as shiv said.

That is more intriguing if you had a steering wheel and pedals for PS2 (like I did until the wires shorted out).
