Thanks again guys. I got Perfect Dark Zero and Project Gotham Racing 3. I have always been a fan of the Gotham series since Metropolis Street Racer on Dreamcast. Also, the low end car in this game is an Acura NSX so we talking strictly exotics. Perfect Dark was one of my favorites back in the N64 days so that was an easy choice. 2 games for 60 bucks is not bad at all.

Well, I got my 360 (the good one) on Friday and had a little scare at first. When I plugged it in, it would not turn on. I kept plugging and unplugging it and could not figure out what was wrong. I later headed over to JK and they tried one of their adapters and it worked fine. Then, they tried my adapter and it worked as well. So, I went back home and tried it and it worked. I later found out, by experimenting, that if I plug the power cable into the 360 first and then into the wall, it does not work. If I plug it into the wall first, then the 360, it works. Strange stuff. So, anyway, the first place I tried it was at my ex-gf's house. I got her hooked on games and her brother has a 40-something inch HDTV so I figured that was the best place to try it out. Needless to say, the picture was stunning. Gaming in widescreen is amazing. It is so easy to get used to. I got 2 games from the new Platinum Hits line, Project Gotham Racing 3 and Perfect Dark Zero. So far I have been rocking Gotham. This game takes me back to the glory days of Need For Speed 2. Anyone remember that? That was a game where each and every car was a work of art, an exotic masterpiece if you will. This game is very similar. I mean, in a couple days I have a Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Maserati, Jaguar and so many other amazing cars that you don't see every day. The manual states, "If it's slower than 170, why bother?" My kind of game, indeed. The inside car view is one of the best I have ever seen. Viewing mirrors with the right analog stick is a stroke of genius. I only touched Perfect Dark Zero a little on the HDTV and it seemed ok. I will have to try it out some more later.

Xbox 360
As reported last week in the games round-up, Blue Dragon has caused quite a stir in Japan.

80,348 copies were sold upon release, boosting the title into 4th place within the Japanese games charts - unprecedented for a Microsoft console in Japan.

Other records were smashed by Microsoft this week. Microsoft has announced that more than 2 million copies of Xbox 360 title Gears of War have now been sold around the globe, making it the fastest-selling next-gen console game so far.

It's also the most played game on Xbox Live, with more than 1 million GoW players taking part in 10 million online gaming sessions.

Good news for GoW fans comes from Epic Games President, Mike Capps, discussing charging for downloadable content: "We started long before the game ever came out; we started on the next stuff. We always take care of our customers, we always give them stuff for free and we're going to keep doing that forever."

Epic have a history of releasing free additional content (e.g. Unreal), and it would be incredibly pleasing if they continued this trend with GoW.

Microsoft have also updated the Xbox 360 backwards compatibility list with a new update. Head over to 1up.com for the full list of updates and additions. µ

I am not sure how many know or have tried this with the 360 but I did. I connected my 360 to my PC via ethernet. Then, I downloaded the Zune software and installed it on my PC. I downloaded the first episode of Heroes via bittorrent. It was in avi format and I converted it to wmv with a program called VideoLAN. I then put it in the "My Videos" folder in "My Documents". I ran the Zune program and turned on my 360. Under the media tab I chose my PC and voila ... there was the episode of Heroes. So, I can watch Heroes on my TV streamed from my PC to my 360. That is some cool stuff. Yes, it loses some quality in the conversion to wmv but it is still as good as standard TV. So far, only wmv is supported for video streaming so the conversion is a necessity. I am in the process of downloading all the Heroes episodes so I can have a marathon whenever I feel like it. Of course, when the DVD set comes out I will buy it but this is an extremely nice substitute in the meantime.

viv,

why not just go from your PC to your TV direct via one of the other inputs? SVIDEO or composite?

I'm all for squeezing all the goodness from your console but I think going direct with the PC will save you the conversion steps and quality loss etc...

Hmm ... I never really thought of that. I checked my video card, a GeForce 5500, and it has a s-video output. My tv, though, does not have s-video inputs. Actually, the only reason I tried all that was because the 360 could do it. I don't usually download videos and prefer to buy DVD's. On another note, anyone else think the idea of Xbox 360 Achievements was nothing short of brilliant? I actually got hooked on Hexic because of those. I guess it calls out to my inner collector.

Yea Viv, the Achievement system is brilliant, Hopefully MS starts letting people use the GamerScore points to buy stuff, it'll be even more worth the time invested in playing through games. But there are people with Ridiculous Gamerscores, I believe the highest I've seen is a man with 109,000+ now that is a man with NO LIFE!...... ^_^
