HT means Hyper Transport on an A64 right???

Now anyone familiar with AMD architecture will know that the A64 has Hyper Transport tech (HT) as opposed to Hyper Threading (HT) on an intel based CPU. Be that as it may, i've JUST read an article that made me wonder... if HT could mean Hyper Threading as well as Hyper Transport on an AMD processor take a read:
Dual Core A64 and HyperThreading
14-04-2005 20:28:37 - Samuel D.
Indice de fiabilité : 7/8 (Trés Fiable)
Translate In French / Traduire en Francais
By attentively studying the behavior of a Dual Core Athlon 64, we realized that a very interesting characteristic of the upcoming Desktop Dual Core chip from AMD was hidden. In fact, if the K8 marchitecture cannot support the Intel's HyperThreading (HT) technology, it seems that the CPUID registers of the processor are not of this opinion. If we carefully study the response to instruction CPUID with EAX = 1, we obtain the following values:
Athlon 64 Simple Core - CPUID (EAX = 1)
Hex (EDX) : 0x078bfbff
Bin (EDX) : 0b000
0
0111100010111111101111111111
Hex (EBX) : 0x000
0
0800
Athlon 64 Dual Core - CPUID (EAX = 1)
Hex (EDX) : 0x178bfbff
Bin (EDX) : 0b000
1
0111100010111111101111111111
Hex (EBX) : 0x000
2
0800
The bit 28 in register EDX (which is emphasized in red here) corresponds to the support of HyperThreading. However, we can see clearly that this bit is now set to 1 whereas it was to 0 for a standard, Single Core, Athlon 64. In the same way, the bits [23:16] of register EBX, which indicate the number of logicals CPU supported on Intel CPUs with Hyperthreading enabled, are also set to "2" in the case of a DC Athlon 64.
So, It seems that AMD chose to activate the "HyperThreading" bit on those Athlon 64 Desktop CPUs in order to profit from optimizations already done by many programmers for HyperThreading technology. This will make possible for those upcoming Athlon 64 Dual Core to also benefit from work already carried out. For now, we do not know yet if the Dual Core Opterons will also have this bit active.

my god....
IS THERE NOOO END TO THE AMOUNT OF HARD WORK, BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS THAT AMD IS WILLING TO STEAL !! OUT RIGHT STEAALLL FROM INTEL!!!!
steupsssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
and for yur information wintry
amd did steal intels command sets.
AMD went to court and had the court issue some stupid suite demanding that intel allow amd to use their commands in their processors.
mmx sse sse2 and now of course some a64s are getting there nasty grubby hands on sse3
grrrrrrrrrrrr i hate them sooo much!@!

And yet, on top of said instructions, AMD still has 3DNow and 3DNow+ instructions. :p What was that about AMD being behind... ah well. Oh as for ur claim about AMD stealing Intels hard work. Tell me something, If I built a computer, and was the market share leader. Then I told all my competition u can't build one like me or use anything resembling my technology. What would we have? lets see... thats kinda like if APPLE ruled the computer world... close box, high price, good product sure.. but no variety, improvements according to THEIR schedule, and mostly BAD for the consumer. Crixx ur just bitter that Intel is getting their @$$es handed to them. Yuh just cyah give credit where credit is due... sad.

i givin de credit where de credit is due
and the credit is due to intel for creating their OWN technology.
Is like an artist painting a picture, then someone else coming along and repainting that picture and taking the damn credit for it.. thas all tht goin on.

Aye man AMD though has Intel compatible instruction sets, implement it in their OWN way. Kinda like EMT64 and iAMD64 are compatible. So its not a wholesale rip off man. Get ur facts straight. IF you think thats a rip off then I suppose u also think that all the different shades of Linux is a rip off of one or the other and thus consider say... mandrake a sub-standard copy. Or maybe u think that Nvidia and ATI are terrible manufacturers as they CONSTANTLY make variations of each others tech. I think what ur saying is BS. But hey if what u prolly wish for comes to pass and ONLY Intel exists, well then I suppose u'd be happy with a slow moving development process, NO variety of product, no competition to improve consumer pricing and heck while we at it a vinilla computer than every Tom, dick, harry, tanty merle and boyo from the corner shop owns... OH WAIT thats basically what Dell wants to do... ah shucks. U must own a Dell... :p

I not sure if this is an idication that Hyper Threading will be enabled on all new AMD cores but this pic shows that even the new Turion machine have hyperthreading enabled. Check out this CPU-Z like screen.
Notice the "Yes" for HyperThreading.

you know how sickening it is to see sse sse2 and now sse3 on a flikkin amd chip ...good lord.
Disgusting.
THeir own implementation MY @$$ is the exact sameeee instruction setz, steups.
Do a lil background search on it winny boy and yull see what i mean.
THe court order was for intel to allow amd to use intel instruction sets because the market is already designed with lots of applications benefiting from these instruction sets, so for amd to be able to compete in the same market as intel, they should be allowed to use the same instruction sets so those programs that benefit from the instructions, could also do so on a amd chip.
Complete popicock.
AMD goes crying to mommy that intel is better, and we smaller and wanna be good to, so mommy make intel share with us pretty please.
Steups, instead of AMD going and making their own intructions and showing the industry that hey, amd has good sets to, lets also support them.. NOOOOOO . they make intel give them their hard work, their blood sweat an tears.
STeups.
wow they have 3dnow *clap clap* Lets give a big round of applause to amd for making ONE THING on their own.. Clap clap ....clap.

don't forget Intel is using AMD 64 bit extension sets..... because of its superioir compatability.....

You know its sad that a man like crixx would prolly say "why doesn't AMD come up with its own instruction sets etc.." but would prolly agree that its a good thing that Microsoft has to share its source code with Linux so as to promote cross platform compatibility. The point I am making is that crixx is prolly being a hypocrit but say wha (if I worng and u rather MS DOH promote cross compatibility, then my bad and well thats just RIDICULOUS). If it was that the market was driven by innovation and better performance we'd ALL HAVE MAC OSX since its way more stable and aesthetically beautiful HOWEVER since we DON'T live in an ideal world that hasn't happened. Its so ONE SIDED the way u put things. I big up intel every now and then, but u being an intellite refuse to give ANY credit and PLUS that make these ubsurd comments. Look, if there were an alternative instruction set in wide use I am sure AMD would support it, HOWEVER since the widely accepted sets are intel (SSE< SSE2 etc) They are simply offering their CLIENTEL what they expect. NOTHING MORE, NOTHING LESS. Give it time till virtualization on multi-core processors, AMD and Intel have COMPLETELY different methods AND hardware. When that happens u can stop rambling since each will have its own completely separate tech. Bah AMD still PWNZ all 1ntels bases with the A64, u JUST BITTER u have to have a high lighbill to get similar (but not as good) performance from ur Prescott waterheater... I mean CPU.

lol i use a northwood and iam very happy.
OSX sucks ballz, iam a gamer so its useless to me.
Look at the whiny little amd fans always making excuses for why amd shouldnt work as hard as intel did and does and make their own instructions.
Everything that has made them a sucesss has been entirely because they building on the strength of intel.
As for the windows linux thing, no i dont think that ms should be forced into giving up there code to anyone, i think its a load of bs.
Linux can an should offer something different instead of trying hard to force ms to share so that can do the same things.
Innovation made intel. Not the same for MS at all but they still did it.

Wow... u never fail to amaze with ur opinions... cross compatibility is something th US or UK government is pushing for as well but to @$$ with them apparently as far as ur concerned. I am sure u'd be happy living in a corner under a rock with only 1 OS, 1 cpu choicem 1 video card vendor, exorbitent prices and no innovation. That would be in keeping with ur obviosuly monopolistic approach to everything. Ah well I not gonna waste meh energy, typing with one hand is hard enough right now with my injuries. Power to u brother, may u or anyone like NEVER rule the world.
