we all know that amd is any gamers best friend since it delivers the best performance for the least amount of cash.
well here is another reason to go amd ( although i am intel biased.)
The sempron processor does fairly well in most applications such as office work and gaming
but falls short when it comes to audio and video encoding.

for more info check the article in tom's hardware guide.

The sempron is a neutered Athlon XP.

If you can find an Athlon XP around still, buy that. The gamers choice.

If you are at the point of changing mobo and got a few dollars on the table, then you can't go wrong with a Athlon 64 3000+

the sempron is just the Tbred athlon XP all over again, with a few tweaks eg. 333FSB .   , what i want from AMD are cheap a64s on socket 939 !  the die size of the winchester A64 is the same as that of the Sempron , AMD can afford much lower prices ...........

the price has come down quite a bit for 939 processors.
and no doubt it will continue to fall.

don't scream for low prices too soon. AMD needs to be competitive yes, but they also need to be profitable.

You don't want them going belly up and leaving Intel to have their way with us again do you??

Check back to Intel pricing Pre AMD being a worthwhile competitor.

You'll seem to have left out teh 3100+ 754 pin Sempron which should replace the Socket A soon. Although it in itself will be eventually phased out for the 939 socket so that AMD will finally have a unified architecture for its (single core) A64 whilst perhaps keep a 1000+ pin (can't rem the speculated # right now) for the dual core A64 as the high end. The 3100+ has been shown to perform VERY well esp when OCed against the low-middle range A64's.
