Gaming getting better overtime?
« on: October 14, 2004, 10:06:19 PM »
With advances in technology/innovation , gaming DOES seem to be improving over time . Though a good many titles produced today deserved to be burned , and many are just remakes of an ancient gameplay formula [ stereotypical racing game/fps game ] with some new features , though SOME improve and break boundries .
Compare Doom I to Doom III, this is an example where TECHNOLOGY and game design make the difference, same basic formula of gameplay, but groundbreaking visuals made a best seller .
Look at Battlefield , Halo , Far Cry and compare them to wolfenstein 3d, half life 1 and quake II ,  and tell me games are NOT getting better with age .
Thought it comes at the price of having to upgrade your PC/Console constantly, and having to sift through a cesspool of games to find something that can make you go 'WOW' .

yeah it does get better, however some of the new games will never be better than the classics. eg: starcraft and quake3.

i will agree there are the good classics but what about new fresh ideas? i mean cmon, some of the games coming out are just rehashes of some older versions....damn...let the damn things die and come out with something new for crying out loud.

i wonder if anyone thinks it's feasible to create a game forums, where we can throw around ideas for games to be made and if there is anyone or anywhere we can submit it too to get it created? or if God is willing (cause he's always able) we create it ourself?

thats an IDEA : we coudl initially make it as a mod for a good  & easy to use engine like HAlf life II / unreal . If it turns out to be good, we can either buy the engine rights and sell it ourselves, or allow Valve some royalties .
We have some l33t programmers and artists in GATT , shouldn't be hard .

Also there are some games that didn't get great reviews but the concepts of the game were unique and original.the ideas from these games would make  great views and gives ideas we can use or alter.

there are other games that got good reviews but were overshadowed for their "difference" and people's desire to play only the BEST games around.

Once it ain't rate over 70%, some people won't look at it twice (myself included)

that is a shame because a lot of good gaming goes unplayed.

It is understandable though. Too many games and way too little time.

I can hardly get time to sweat warhammer, tekken, street fighter, etc... as much as I want too, far less to be playing less than stellar games on the market.
