just a suggestion, cause of this prob with comp man and his crew.

the reason for spk's suggestion is very understandable

so hows about, everyone bring there deck in a well  labeled well sealed container, and the decks be placed in a location in very plain view of all competitors, but with access only available to spk/judge(s).

transparency and all that.

( oh and on a side note, i went out and bought a new starter and a tin and some boosters. got me a kaiba, was lookin for a joey as well, cant find one bleh)

spent the day trying to reaquaint myself with the game and learn bout these new cards.

got some trap card, anubis something , see that its on the banned list, bleh, the card has a very nice effect.

I personally don't like the idea of giving anyone my deck to hold.
I've known spk a while now, and still, he cannot guarantee no harm will come to the decks.
Thats the way things are.

i would prefer to hold my deck, i think the reason ppl lose so many cards is that they allow too many ppl to look at their decks.also if cards do go missing i hope SPk know's he will be held liable. personally that's not a responsiblity i want.

Well it was a liability I was willing to risk, but hearing the general idea about it, I guess I will have to reverse the decision.

However, the question still remains on how to ensure that cards won't be swapped by players inbetween rounds?

thats why i suggested that everyone seal there decks in some sort of container. a tin if you have, or just maskin tape it up or something and VERY WELL LABELED.LIKE YUR NAME COATING THE CASE

And the decks be placed in a location in FULLLLLLLLL view of all
but can only be accesed by spk or a designated judge or something.

like in the middle of all the duelist, so he go be watchin he deck like ah hawk, buh no swappin goin on.

SPK with all regards to your tourney i say that everyone participatin must be forbidden to trade during the tourney and all trades should be held in the tradin area where all trades must be written and take part in the presence of  the trading police and the same with all of the selling and buying. In addition all players must type or write out all the cards that they hav in the tourney and it should be checked by the judges on their entrance and on their departure..

P.S the traders  and sellers should sign their names in the book in front of the trading police ....

There's a reason for that.

In previous tournaments, I have seen cases where players, after winning their rounds, lend virtually their entire decks for their friends to play with and defeat other players that would have otherwise had a  better chance of winning.

It's not fair to other players when actions take place like this.

Unless you have a BETTER suggestion as to combat scenarios like this, it's what will have to be done.

If u want to get a card, get it BEFORE the tourney, borrowing cards during the middle of a tournament is tantamount to cheating, because you're winning with cards that aren't even yours!!! Consider if you playing with a deck that u ketch ur royal @ss to build, and then some little punk with not much cards of his own, but borrow from a friend in the middle of the tournament, you will know how it feels. I am sick and tired of seeing certain people make far, and even winning, tournaments due to underhanded tactics as such, and I wish nothing of the sort to happen by me!!!!

So, let's hear your alternative route to handing this problem, if you sooo feel that you need to borrow cards on the day. If u need a card, get it BEFORE the tournament starts!!!

*Awaits your response, if you have anything constructive to say*

Whoever wishes to not partake in this tournament over issues like this, fine. You have no right then to call yourself a worthy duelist if you cannot conform to rules as laid out by Upperdeck.

It's enough that I'm even letting you all keep the decks for yourselves in between rounds, but I'm maintaining that I will NOT be responsible for what happens to your cards in the meantime...if anything goes missing, it's your OWN SELVES to blame...I was willing to risk taking responsibility for each person's deck myself, having all decks locked in a room for which only myself and my bro would have had the key for. However, I think you all have been too 'spoiled' by normal unregulated tournaments, which gives too much leeway. You all playing by international standards now, there's no 'friend' to exchange cards with. If it's casual dueling, fine, but this ain't no casual tournament.

We shall see who's really ready to play come January 22nd.

My intention is not to put words in Madman's mouth.  But I beleive he meant to say trading and or borrowing prior to deck registration, not during the tournament.

I agree 100%!  As I stated earlier, I don't believe that Madman's intention was to circumvent UDE Tournament rules and regulations.  He was concerned, as I am, that we will not be allowed to trade prior to deck registration.  Some of us were making arrangements to trade prior to the start of the tournament, for cards that we require to complete or complement our decks.  If we are not allowed to trade on the Tournament Compound that will be fine, I see no problem with that.  We will simply make our trades outside.  However, if we are penalised for trading 5 or 10 minutes prior to official deck registration then I see a possible issue arising.

As for not being responsible for our decks are our cards.  That is how it should be, always!  Each person is responsible for their own property.  You have seen how my group operates.  We are protective, with extreme prejudice, of all our cards and accessories.  We have never, NEVER, had a card or accessory stolen from us!

There can't be a better location, because as it is, if I have to look to rent elsewhere, that's gonna make me go at an even bigger loss, because prizes are already making me incur a significant loss. To do so would mean an even HIGHER entrance fee, and that's something I'm not willing to do. People come from enough distance to play in tournaments in town etc, it's about time ppl who are accostomed to being at a tournament in 10 mins time repay the favour and see what it's like for some of us that have to travel for an hour and change to be at a tournament.

To Computerman's concern...trading before your registration is completely fine...it's the trading done and swapping of cards done AFTER deck registration (I.E. in the middle of the tournament) is what I have some SERIOUS problems with...and it's something that I know is quite often done *remembers the tournament by Toymart in Price Plaza well enough*.

I have no actual issue with using another person's card(s), so long that you maintain that deck the whole way through.

The best I can offer is allow an extended period of time for deck registration, so that you can do whatever trades as needed before the tournament begins, and if you are only a couple of mins late from the end of the deck registration period, I could let it slide, but don't expect too much of a leeway from me.

But that's why every duelist must submit a deck list at registration.  You should have some blank forms for duelists who don't walk with their own list.  The deck list submitted can be used to 'spot' check decks at request.  However I don't believe this will be such a big issue at this tournament.  Considering this will be the best of the best...and no stragglers....I expect this to be the most exciting and challenging tournament yet!

But, then again, what's stopping him from getting the cards between now and Jan 22nd? In any case, let's wait and hear from him as to what he -really- meant.
The same thing that's stopping me...time and money!
I agree, it would be best if Madman would clarify his position.  Although I don't know when he will be able to do this as he has been very ill lately.
