Intel touts Pentium M as desktop replacement

Intel Developer Forum

By Mike Magee in San Francisco: Thursday 03 March 2005, 19:19

THE DAY HAS dawned that Intel has publicly stated that future desktops built on Pentium M processors and chipsets will be replacements for your common or garden sort of PC.
The firm showed off one or two reference designs here at IDF, including a rather snazzy slim thing, pictured below. This one has got a DVD built into the front of the unit, and the usual IO suspects at the back.

We asked the nice Intel chaps whether they thought the introduction of such creatures would cause trouble for OEMs who specifically made notebooks. But Intel thinks not. Presumably because many of the bigger OEMs make notebooks and desktops.

Oh, by the way, we want one. We've been using a home built Pentium M desktop for a little while now and it's quiet, and it's fast.

Hey trini I don't think its necessarily right to say their R&D team were wrong. I remember reading an article where basically its was the Marketing dept that made the decision to go with netburst architecture becuase of its better selling point. Eventually they hit the wall head on and finally the engineering dept got to say, told ya so.. so don't knock em too hard, they are pretty damn smart. Plus they did get their own way to an extent... I mean there would be no Pent1um M if they didn't know better. As for Synth I am not sure what he meant by

wha value did this comment add to my thread? its a pic of a desktop based pent1um M system, that was obvious. It illustrates the smaller form factor. Its a waste of my TIME to answer that comment.
