This may is a REAL n00b question, but is it possiable to connect a HD externaly to a pc, and like how? usb or what? Cause to install the HD as a secondary drive takes too long.

Yea, but you have to buy a kind of case for it that provides the conversion for the HD's power and interface connectors before you can do that...once u got that, it's no problem really.

USB HDs are a waste of money.
All you need to do is get a "USB (2.0) Enclosure". Make sure it supports usb 2.0 otherwise data transfer will be painfully slow.
Also make sure enclosure can support normal IDE 3.5" HD and have some form of cooling fan.
Whizz has but I am not sure if they up to my standard. If you get me exact model I can tell you if its worth it or not.

Synth most people, places, animals and things are up to your standards... anyways yeah they're called External Drive Bay Enclosures. Also you should do everything Synth said there, make sure its USB 2.0 (and in most if not ALL cases its an IDE interface on the inside thats what they made for, conversion of IDE devices like ur HD and CD-ROM etc for external use). I have an external drive bay w/ a 80GB HD in it and it works fine mostly (I say mostly because it sometimes takes a while for my machine to pick it up, I have yet to determine if thats a flaw with the particular drive I have or a hardware incompatibility issue)... (it prolly not to synths standards but hey I ain't nowhere that picky). You can prolly get them in whizz if not check PCTRINI or PM me I could organise yuh. They will run u between $200-$300TT

* jaw drops in compleeteeeee awe at this thread*
mein got
*jaw drops again like whoa*
*sigh*
just so this wont be spam
there are also sata usb2 enclosures which have some fancy way of connecting yur external to yur sata slot.
but this option limits the mobility of the driver, because yu would need to install the extra hardware on whatever machine yur going to.
*sigh*
*omg what am i doing here! stillll cant believe this thread exist!!!*

lol
give de man a chance, not everyone uber up to date on tech.
USB enclosures around a LONG time, I talking serious years here. They can connect most any internal device via usb using these. From DVD Burners to Laptop hard drives.
They have gotten much more useful in recent days with USB2. Before that they were slow as sloths.
USB 1.1 = 12mbps = Take 1 hour to copy a big game.
usb 2.0 = 480mbps = take 10 Minutes to copy a big game.
The smallest unit (fits in your shirt pocket) for a 2.5" hd will cost $165.00
You can put an 80gb in that and walk around with the world. lol
This is what I use, got a 40gb. Real slick.
A bigger one for a regular desktop hd (3.5") will cost US$24.50 from newegg. That's about TT$160.00
check it out.

Ok, personaly i rather ask stupid questions in a forum, cause most, if not all yall dont know me.Plus its better than walking in a store and lookins like an ass.
Right, lemmie get this right, the USB enclosure, is just a shell, that i put my HD in, and connect to my pc, and it reads as another HD?
And, how cheap is dog cheap? And by when? Cause my days of gaming runnin low with C.X.C commin round.
PS: Crixx_Creww, forgive me nah, i still learning

Yeah thats pretty much it, ur HD will read as an USB storage device and a lil green arrow will appear in ur task bar by the clock (if ur using win 2000 or higher). In My COmputer you will see it as another Hard drive or removable storage. As for Sata HD enclosures... i've heard of those... but I believe it was the same thing, a serial interface to connect ur sata drive to the USB port. And yeah Baego, how cheap is cheap?

if you really want to see me picky...
The chipset uses also matters. Some have better compatibilty and speed than others.
But I can't stress the cooling fan + air vents enough.
I run my external hd at times for more than a day continous and never had any problem with overheating. And on all my systems it is detected instantly and perfectly stable.
I picked mines based on #1 chipset #2 cooling and lastly price.
Bytecc is the brand to remember.
Kukka's enclosures are CRAP by my stds.
