Cold Cathodes are brightr but produce more heat than neons.

Cold Cathodes more common nowadays.

Whizz has a few kinds. Actually most bigger comp places do have in stock here due to increased popularity.

Don't forget to get an invertor with it. Might even try a bright LED...similiar effect must less hassle and cost.

hey I got a case like that :) ..........With a white optical drive in the same place :o
Anyway, wizz is supposed to have a fan by now to match those "neons" in the case. You can replace the clear sidefan with it. The stick most people have are too long to fit at the top of that case, so you can put two sticks on the side panel above and below the "X". At the top you should as much to the front as possible..especially if it gives off some heat. Try and illuminate the "//////" vents to the top. That's what they're for ;)

Out of sheer curiosity...how much juice do these neon lights suck? I'm assuming they plug into the PSU? Following that thought...would it be safe to assume that I'd need a bigger PSU if I wanted to have neon lights in my box as well?

hey CCFLs are cooler than neons, they use alot less power too, the power also varies according to length, they come in 4" and 12". they come in an acrylic tube so the light is distributed evenly. They use the 12volts off your molex connecs in your pc, you need not worry about how much they pull. unless you have too many devices in your machine. They are better than neon (brighter and cooler) and better than LEDs (better distribution of light and diffused). go with the CCFLs. They last pretty long too. I have 6 in my case, but that's only because they are UVs, not straight lighting. If you install them and find your system to become unstable (random crashes, trouble booting, or any crazy behavior) just take them out, cause your PSU can't handle anymore load!  If you want advice on modding holla at your boy, I'm nice. You name it, I have done it.

No offense but your pc yells "newbie" I really do think you should holla at me if you want some cheap and easy mods.

Your right I made a mistake. CCFLs are cooler than neons.

However its wrong to say they "better" than Leds. Leds can fit in places neon/cc can't. And the "diffused" lighting may very well be the effect your looking for. Not to mention they cheaper and highly flexible in amount of light that is emitted (different MCD ratings)...and more colors to choose from.

A LED gives off "raw" lighting, if you will. where as the CCFLs give off diffusesed, soft, even lighting. an led is actually a beam, so wherever it hits in the cae, it will be the most brightest, causing eneven lighting. if you shine a LEd you will notice it forms concentric circles. you don't want that in your case. especially the small case he has. There really isn't a comparison here. It depends on the lighting he wants, and he wants lighting that the CCFL's can give.

There are different kinds of LEDs...and brightness ratings.

The effect strength will vary...

And it is WRONG to say "you don't want that in your case" Its up to HIM what effect HE WANTS in his case. All you allowed to do is show him his options.

You can always get creative and coat/cover the led with tinted plastic/glass or to create unique effects. Combining multiple kinds and colors together can create all manner of colored effects.

If leds were so lame as you suggest then why do they use it in LED Fans?

LEDs has infinite uses, it all depends on how creative you are.

Lol, hold up partner, read the kid's post, look at the tubes he has on his case, he wants lights like those. those may very well be leds in an acrylic tubing, but look at the effect it gives off - diffused even lighting, which a straight led cannot do. Which i why I suggested CCFL's in the first place. Do you have an eperience in case modding, or guessing?

^ oh, by the way, that's a legit question. No disrespect meant in any way Synth.  ;)

"Hey guys, anyone got an interior lighting neon tube? I am looking for a blue one, preferabally like or close to the one on my case. Check out the the pick to see what I mean, thanks! "

Yes, he is looking for straight tubes. But  the thread progressed to the merits of LEDs which is all good, since its a valid option for him as well.

Regardless, one of my main points is that you cant TELL HIM what to do...which you did.

Neither can you ignore my points about LEDs. No one said he had to use straight LEDs in any case.

As for experience in case modding...
Well about 5 years...starting at early days at hardocp.com forums. I have about a gig of html/pics related to modding as well.

Speaking of which I have quite alot modding gear I wanna get rid of I will post in trade forums soon.

PS. I never guess.

You really do not sound like you have any experience modding, while LEDs ARE a cheap alternative, you get exactly what you paid for. LED's are not a good source of even lighting, their main characteristics is their brightness, life, and economical power consumption. Where as, neon and CCFL's are prefered for their far superior quality of lighting. hence i suggested CCFL's. Like i said before, sure, he can use LED's but what quality of lighting will he get?

anyone who has used an LED in a pc case knows. Look at what LED's are mostly used for now; Lighting the feet of the chasis, or interior lighting of a optical drive.
